Edna Shiron Wordsworth Obituary

Shiron Wordsworth of Blanco, Texas transitioned to her heavenly home, surrounded by her daughter, mother and sister on February 2, 2021 after a brief but heroic battle with cancer. A native of Kentucky, she moved to Spring Branch, Texas in 1979, making her home in Blanco for the past ten years. Shiron was the student every teacher wanted and the teacher every student needed. Earning a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Spalding University in Louisville, Kentucky, she taught middle school in the Catholic School system in San Antonio and high school at Canyon Lake High School in Comal County. In addition, Shiron served as an executive assistant at Cornerstone Church in San Antonio and as a business clerk at Lowe’s in Blanco. Teaching was only one of her gifts. Her greatest talent was creative writing, capturing the history of her family and the hills of Kentucky in short stories based on fact but given the “Shiron spin.” Her research and creative work was crafted into books for her grandchildren and niece and nephew to insure the narrative of her family would be passed to the next generation. To her grandchildren she was “Grams.” To her niece and nephew she was “Shirey.” To her students she was Ms. Wordsworth. To her daughter she was Mom. To the world she was a bright, sassy, caring woman who strove in all things to be her best and to care for others. Shiron is preceded in death by her husband Watson Wordsworth, Her father James Emory and her maternal grandparents Louie and Mary Steenbergen. She is survived by her mother Norma Emory, her daughter Laura Flint (Robert), her sister Shannon Emory Cambron (Terry), grandchildren Jeremy (Chloe) Flint, Bobby (Kirsten) Flint, Rebekah Flint, Sheldon Flint , great grand children Adin, Emory, James and Dawson and niece Caroline Cambron and nephew Tyler Cambron. Shiron’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to her care team from Vitas Hospice. From her nurse Shar to her home health aide Yolanda to her social worker Kaitlyn, the care she received honored her life and supported the family that cared for her. Their services made it possible to honor her wish to remain at home, in her own bed surrounded by the comfort of good memories, family and friends. Shiron saw education as the key to transforming lives. In her honor, a scholarship has been established in her name at her Alma Mater, Spalding University. Those wishing to celebrate her life and honor her memory can contribute to the Shiron Legacy Scholarship fund at https://givespalding.givingfuel.com/shiron-legacy-scholarship.
