Private Family Memorial Services for Michael Hampton, age 66, of Norfolk and formerly of O’Neill will be at a later date. Burial will take place at Grand Island Cemetery in Grand Island, NE. Mike passed away on Monday, February 1, 2021 at the Norfolk Veterans Home in Norfolk, Nebraska. Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation. Biglin’s Mortuary in O’Neill is in charge of arrangements. Michael Lynn Hampton was born on April 18, 1954 in Fremont, NE to Fay and Verna (Hammer) Hampton. He attended Fremont Public School, graduating in 1972. After graduating, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on July 10, 1972. After serving in Vietnam, he was Honorably Discharged on January 3,1975. He then returned to Fremont and worked as a manager of the Capri Restaurant. Mike married Betty Wilhelmi on May 30, 1998 in Fremont. The couple moved to O’Neill in 1999, where he owned his own business, Hampton Handyman. Mike was a member of the O’Neill American Legion Simonson Post 93 and the Fremont Pathfinders Civil War Reenactors. Mike enjoyed hunting and refinishing antique wood furniture. Mike is survived by his wife of 22 years, Betty Hampton of O’Neill; two children, Shari (Jon) Pennington of Lebanon, OR, Ryan (Kristen) King of Trenton, NE; seven grandchildren; one brother; one sister; and several nieces and nephews. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Fay and Verna Hampton; and one son, Tom House.
