Robert Winston Dennard

Robert “Bob” W. Dennard, 80, passed away January 17th, 2021 surrounded by his daughters. He was the sixth child out of seven born to Zary and Mildred Dennard on September 11, 1940 in Tampa, Florida. He graduated from Lakeland High School in 1958 and joined the United States Navy as a musician. He played several instruments, but the saxophone was his specialty. As a Navy musician, he did several tours all over the world. He earned the rank of Chief Petty Officer and was an assistant band director as well as receiving multiple Good Conduct medals, a National Defense Service Medal, and a Navy Achievement Medal. He married his high school sweetheart, Betty Jane Rozelle in 1961. They were together almost 60 years. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Leo College with a concentration in Music and a Master of Education degree from Florida Atlantic University. After retiring from the Navy in 1985, he worked as a music teacher and band director. He left education after a few years and became an owner/operator driving his truck, “Kemosabe”. He also drove for other local trucking companies in Pensacola. Later, he worked for AAFES where he retired in 2006. For fun, he formed his own bands “The Classics” and “The Keynotes” where they played for multiple venues around the Pensacola area. Bob was passionately involved in his community as a member of the Masons, Sojourner’s, York Rite, Scottish Rite, Order of the Eastern Star, and the Fleet Reserve Association. He was active with Pensacola Branch No. 22 Fleet reserve Association serving on the Board of Directors Staff. He was a Master Mason and past Master of Myrtle Grove Lodge #352 F&AM. He was a past Worthy Patron as well as current Worthy Patron of Pensacola Chapter No. 253 Order of Eastern Star. He was actively involved in many Masonic and community organizations serving as presiding officer in all three York Rite Bodies. He was a Past Excellent High Priest of MT Horeb Chapter No. 6 Royal Arch Masons. He was a Past Illustrious Master of Union Council No. 7 Royal and Select Masters. He was Past Eminent Commander of Coeur de Lion Commandry No. 1 Knights Templars. He served as District Deputy Grand Commander for District No. 10 for the Grand Commandery of Florida and he was a Past District Deputy Grand Illustrious Master for District 10 for the Grand Council of Florida. As a Sojourner, he was a Past President of Five Flags of Pensacola Chapter No. 460, National Sojourners and served as Commander of Lexington Camp, Heroes of 76. Bob was extremely proud to be a Mason and was enthusiastically involved in these and many more Masonic Bodies. He is survived by his daughters, Renee Demianovich and Lynn Aultman and their husbands Mark Demianovich and Bob Aultman; four grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Jane Dennard (2018); his son, Robert jr. (1965); and his grandson, Robert Faires, (2016). The family respectfully requests donations be made to two organizations he strongly supported, Cryptic Masons Medical Research (CMMRF) or The Shriner’s Hospital in lieu of flowers.
