Franklin Edwin Hokana

Franklin Edwin Hokana, age 87, passed away on January 28, 2021. Born on March 11, 1933, in Guelph, ND, to Emil and Hillia (Wattula) Hokana. Loving husband of Joyclen (Ylitalo) for 64 years. Loving father of Michael (Colette), Steven (Mary), and Patrice (Kirk) Treubert. Loving grandfather of Brian, Brigid, Matthew, Peter (Victoria), Katherine (Joseph) Warnke, Jonathan (Brittany), Julia and Caroline Treubert. Loving great-grandfather of Adeline and Eleanor Hokana, Matthew and Mark Warnke. Nine siblings, all predeceased. Raised on a state-line North Dakota farm, Frank was proud of his Finnish heritage. He enjoyed sharing stories of the farm and interactions in the Finnish community and State-line Finnish Apostolic Church. After serving in the US Navy as an Air Traffic Controller on the USS Midway during its round-the-world cruise from 1954 to 1955, he returned to tell many stories of his military service. He graduated from North Dakota State University after majoring in Economics. After living in Colorado Springs, CO, and Lincoln, NE, he joined the USDA where he served for 39 years and traveled the world. He served as Agricultural Attaché at the American Embassy, London, England, from 1977 to 1980. Frank was a 25-year member of Northern Virginia Association of Realtors. Frank was 50-year member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Springfield, VA, and served as an elder. Visitation will be held at Advent Funeral Home, 7211 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA, on Wednesday, February 3, 2021, at 10:30-11:30. Interment will follow at Quantico National Cemetery, Triangle, VA, on February 3 at 1:00 pm. Memorial service will be private. Memorials may be made to LCMS Ministry to the Armed Forces, 1333 S. Kirkwood Rd., St. Louis, MO, 63122 and Pioneer Church Restoration Fund or Pioneer Cemetery, Gary Hokana (President), 9975 96th Ave SE, Ellendale, ND 58436-9666.
