Karen Rae Van Almen-Sackett, 80, of Battle Creek, Michigan, passed away on Friday, January 29, 2021 at The Oaks of Northpointe Woods. She was born on October 13, 1940 in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of Richard Earl and Arla Marie (Northam) Van Almen. Karen had a Master’s Degree in Art Education from Ohio State University, Go Buckeyes! She was involved in Alfa Gama Delta Sorority. Karen has taught art to students of varying ages for many years and last taught over 10 years with Pennfield Public Schools. She loved her students as her own. Karen is survived by her husband, Ronald L. Sackett; Daughter, Kathren “Kate” Monaweck; Son, Kevin (Lynette) Connell; Grandchildren, Brian, Chet, Andrew, Joy, Drake, Jessica; Great Grand Child, Lynora; Sister-In-Law, Sandy Van Almen and Kathy Van Almen; Nieces, Arla Van Almen; Nephews, Rick (Alex) Van Almen, Martin (Laura) Van Almen, Scott (Kim) Van Almen, Brian (Madeleine) Van Almen, and other loving family members. She was preceded in death by her Parents, Son, Korby Matthew Connell; Brothers, Jeffrey Brian Van Almen, Richard Earl Van Almen; Nephew, Andrew Van Almen. Karen enjoyed art, teaching, dancing, music, nature, swimming, skiing, canoeing, kayaking, photography, adventure, travel, camping, and social outings. Her main passion in life however was spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, an outdoor candle vigil will be held (TBD), and family burial at Sunset Memorial in North Olmstead, Ohio.
