Richard M.F. Smith Obituary

Dick Smith lost his short battle with Leukemia on January 25th. Dick and his wife Donna owned and operated Wyant and Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyvale for 35 years. As newlyweds they purchased the business in 1970 and operated it until his retirement when Spangler Mortuary took it over. He is survived by his wife of 51 years Donna, daughters Danica Smith of Los Angeles and Stacy Stefanopoulos of San Jose and his grandchildren Ava and Aydon, age 14. Dick was known for his kindness, generosity and a big help for those in need. He was an active member of the community for over 50 years and spent his life serving others. Dick was a two-time president of the Sunnyvale Rotary Club and he would feed the homeless regularly as part of the Sunnyvale Community Services. He was a member of the El Camino Hospital auxiliary committee. After retiring, he was active in the San Luis Obispo County community by being a docent at Hearst Castle and on the Volunteer Sheriff Patrol. He and six others started DeAnza Bank in Sunnyvale which was folded into Citicorp in 1991. Dick earned an Outstanding Business Men of the year award in Sunnyvale in 2004 and in 2017 he was honored with the Mayors Award of Excellence. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 31, 2021 from 1-4PM at LIMA & CAMPAGNA SUNNYVALE MORTUARY, 1315 Hollenbeck Avenue, Sunnyvale. A private family Funeral Service will be held Monday, February 1, 2021 at the above listed funeral home. Private Entombment will follow the service at GATE OF HEAVEN CATHOLIC CEMETERY, Los Altos. The family will plan a celebration of Dicks life in the future once the Covid pandemic is under control. He will be missed by all those he helped in troubled times and whose life he made better. In lieu of flowers the family is asking to continue Dicks love of his Sunnyvale Community by donating to the Sunnyvale Community Services (https://svcommunityservices.org/donate-how-to-donate/.)
