Richard Elden Rex

<p>Richard Elden Rex, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother passed away peacefully at his home in American Fork on January 27, 2021 at the age of 93. &nbsp;<br /> Richard was born August 31, 1927 to Mary and Elden Rex in Logan, Utah.&nbsp; When he was three his family moved to Palo Alto, CA for his father to attend graduate school at Stanford, and then moved to Oakland for four years.&nbsp; At the age of eight, his family moved to Hawaii for three years where he learned to love swimming&nbsp;in the ocean and surfing.&nbsp; In 1938 his family moved to Los Angeles, where his sister, Kathy, was born, and where he spent the rest of his growing-up years and graduated from Beverly High School.&nbsp; Upon graduation he joined the Navy near the end of WWII and served two years.&nbsp; When he returned he enrolled at the University of Southern California and graduated from USC with a degree in Business Administration.&nbsp; He then attended BYU to work on his Master&#39;s degree, where he met his eternal companion, Patsy Rae Methvin, and they were married on October 15, 1954 in the Salt Lake Temple.<br /> Dick (as he is called by his friends) and Pat moved between California and Washington state a few times before eventually settling in the Columbia Basin of southeastern Washington, where they developed their farmland and raised their children. They were blessed with four wonderful children: Susan (Richard Rose), Tom, Jim, and John (Joan) and have eight beautiful grandchildren, and five precious great-grandchildren. &nbsp;<br /> &nbsp; Richard worked as an accountant while also running the farm, and eventually became the advertising manager for the local newspaper, the Othello Outlook for thirty years.&nbsp; Always an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served as the ward clerk for three Bishops and Stake financial clerk as well as being a seminary teacher, ward missionary, in the high priest group leadership, and he and his wife enjoyed serving as missionaries in the Philippines Bacolod Mission from 2001-2003.&nbsp;<br /> &nbsp; Dick was always a kind and gentle person, and a devoted and caring husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother and an example of honesty and integrity, hard work and quiet service. He is deeply loved and missed, and is survived by his loving wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sister and brothers in-law and sister in-law. A family service was held on January 29, 2021 and burial was in the Highland, Utah cemetery. A video of his funeral service may be viewed below.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>

Caring. Humble. Always there to help others well into his eighties.  
    At age ten he got to spend a summer on the ranch in Wyoming with his grandfather. He didn't want to go back at summer's end. Told his dad, "They've got schools here."
