Rudolph (“Rudy”) D. Talarico, 86 of Spring Lake, passed away at Jersey Shore University Medical Center on January 25, 2021 from Covid-19 with his devoted wife, Pamela, at his side. Rudy was born on May 7, 1934 in Newark, New Jersey and resided in Spring Lake for 50 years. Rudy was predeceased by his parents, Frances and Gaetan Talarico; and brothers, George, Leonard, and Lawrence. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Pamela (Nelson) Talarico; children, Patricia Kelly (Michael) of Brielle, NJ and Christine Holland (Ethan) of Winnetka, IL; five grand-children, Brendan, Maggie, Brooke, Alex and Jemma; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews. Rudy was a graduate of St. Benedict’s Preparatory School; Seton Hall University; and UMDNJ/New Jersey Medical School. He was a Board Certified Urologist and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. A practicing urologist for over 35 years, he was a co-founder of Coastal Urology in Neptune, New Jersey; former Chief of Urology at Jersey Shore University Medical Center and Ocean Medical Center; former Chief of Staff of Jersey Shore University Medical Center; and was published in several well-respected medical journals and books in the field of Urology. He was the founder and President of the Monmouth/Ocean Urology Association. Rudy served in the United States Army in Korea from 1962-1963; was stationed at Ft. Devens Army Hospital in Massachusetts from 1963-1964; and received The Army Commendation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Korea Defense Service Medal. Prior to his retirement in 1997, Rudy obtained his Master’s Degree in History from Monmouth University. After his retirement, Rudy continued give back to the community. He was involved in missionary work through the Catholic Medical Mission Board and the Catholic Medical Association with missions to Guyana, Honduras and Haiti. He continued with his charitable work at home, volunteering at Meals on Wheels and the Jersey Shore University Medical Center Thrift Shop. He was a Communicant of St. Catharine’s Parish and a Eucharistic Minister. He was a Knight of Malta and recognized as Knight of The Year by the New Jersey Chapter of The Knights of Malta. He was a member of the American Legion, Post #432 and served as the Post’s historian. Rudy’s greatest passion was his family. He was a loving and devoted husband and father, and the best Grandpa ever. He was a loyal friend to many; enjoyed fishing, gardening, cooking, and reading; was devoted to his faith; and was a long-time member of the Spring Lake Bath & Tennis Club. His gardening was legendary, growing bountiful fruits and vegetables every season which he shared with his family and friends. He always looked forward to Sunday night family dinners and backyard barbecues, breaking out the smoker on many occasions. He will be greatly missed by all. The family would like to express their sincere thanks and gratitude to the entire staff of Jersey Shore University Medical Center for their tireless efforts and support. A funeral mass will be held at St. Margaret’s Church, Spring Lake, New Jersey on February 1, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. Due to restrictions, the church has limited capacity of 100 people.
