Gilman Lindsay Williar, age 86, of New Windsor, died Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at Shepherd’s Glen Assisted Living, near Union Bridge. Born September 13, 1934 in New Windsor, he was the son of the late Edward L. and Irene Bowman Williar. He was the husband of Patricia Abbott Williar, his wife of 65 years. Mr. Williar was a 1952 graduate of Elmer Wolfe High School and 1956 graduate of Springfield College, Springfield, MA, where he was on the gymnastics and soccer teams. He received his Master’s Degree from Western Maryland College. He also served his country as a member of the Army Reserves. He was employed with Carroll County Board of Education for 35 years, working as a teacher, assistant principal and principal, with the last 5 years of his career as principal of Elmer Wolfe Elementary School. He was a high school basketball official in Carroll County and enjoyed watching sports, traveling and taking walks. Gil was a member of the Church of the Open Door, Westminster, and the Carroll County Teacher’s Association. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three children, D. Edward Williar and wife Colleen of Union Bridge, Teresa Meinecke and husband Erle of Westminster and Marc G. Williar and wife Jeri of St. Petersburg, FL; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren (and one due next month); and brother-in-law, Roy Stitely of Westminster. He was predeceased by sister, Judy Stitely in 2018. There will be no public visitation. A graveside service will be held at a later date in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Uniontown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shepherd’s Glen Assisted Living, 4949 Middleburg Rd., Taneytown, MD 21787.
