Christopher ‘Bugs’ Strangling Wolf Jr- Ni’tsitapapoii ‘Standing Alone’

Chris ‘Bugs’, 61 years old, was born in Cardston, Alberta on February 4th, 1959. It is with great sadness and sorrow that the family announces the passing of our beloved and cherished father, husband, grandfather, great-grandfather, nephew, uncle, cousin, and friend. Creator called dad home on January 21st, 2021 in Calgary, Alberta, he was two weeks shy of his 62nd birthday. Chris was the son of the late Philip Chris Sr. and Susan Strangling Wolf. He leaves to mourn, his beloved wife of 43 years, our mom, Colleen Strangling Wolf, all his children: Philip, Shannan (Baby Susie), Timothy (Kandice), Brennan (Lisa) Strangling Wolf, Sherleen Spring Chief, John Rory, Tanya Loftus, and Shay Lickers. Chris loved and cherished all his grandchildren and great-granddaughter, his nieces, and nephews, as well as all his siblings and adopted siblings (too many to name). Dad is also survived by his two great-aunties: Liz Scout and Connie (Mike) Rabbit Carrier.

Through out his life, Grandpa and grandma instilled our Blackfoot Culture and taught dad the traditional way of life. He was involved with Kainai Sundance and both him and mom were the previous Siksika Horn Society leaders for a number of years. Dad loved the powwow circuit and travelled to many powwows, to set up his craft tables and to participate in the men’s buckskin category. He was continually approached to share his traditional teachings with the youth, to perform ceremonies and also to give his blessings. Dad performed three Traditional Blackfoot Weddings and was scheduled for a fourth traditional wedding for his good friend Kyle Running Rabbit and Dee White this coming June. In his younger years, dad was an athlete, participating in hockey, basketball, curling, and baseball. He also played pool and travelled with the McMasters and Running Rabbits to many tournaments throughout Canada and the States. After graduating grade 12 at Old Sun in Siksika, he continued his post secondary education at SAIT in Calgary and received his Journeyman Welder Certificate. He then attended Mount Royal to pursue a Business Management certificate. Dad once owned the Turbo gas station in 1984 and a tire shop, later on he continued to run his tire shop beside the house in the Flats (North Camp). Before his health issues began, dad worked for Siksika Health and was the team leader at the old Clinic for 18 years, where he was in charge of the security guards, housekeepers, and maintenance workers. Being unable to continue working due to his sickness, he then dedicated the rest of his life and the majority of his time to showering his love upon his children and grandchildren. He taught all of us to love one another no matter what quarrels we had with people, and always said to leave the stuff that happened yesterday with yesterday, that today was a new day. “Life’s too short to be mad at the world and to always be fighting”. Our dad had such big heart, not a day would go by where he didn’t tell someone that he loved them. Getting a random call from dad telling us he missed and loved us was something that we often looked forward to and will cherish forever. If you came to visit with dad, you would find him either crafting, sorting through his hockey card and coin collections, or he would be outside working on something, bombing around on his quad or skid steer, planting trees, fixing fences or gates or tending to his horses and dogs. If you did not find him at home, he would be on the road travelling to the many auctions and markets looking for more ‘junk’ to add to his prized possessions (but we just called it hoarding). Fishing, canoeing, and hunting were also some of his favorite hobbies.

Along with his parents, dad was predeceased by his siblings: Ben, Woodrow, Kimmy and Rolland Strangling Wolf, but he will be lovingly remembered by all his extended families from near and far, from Siksika: the Strangling Wolf, Turning Robe, Rabbit Carrier, Munro, Loftus, Axe, Medicine Shield, McMaster, Black Rider, Wright, Big Tobacco, Eagle Speaker, and Maguire families; from down south: Willow, Eagle Bear, Many Fingers, Beebe, Scout, Mills, Little Bear, Small Face, Tallows, Plain Eagle, Saddle Back, Buffalo families; and last but not least, his relations from across the border in Browning. We the family dearly apologize if we missed any family members or friends, because our dad was a well known and respected man who had many friends that he adopted and whom he held close to his heart. We would especially like to thank the doctors, nurses, and the native liaison worker at South Health Campus, Siksika Home Care, and staff, and doctor Lobay, for making dad as comfortable as they could during his last weeks of life.

Wake services will be held at the residence of Shannan Strangling Wolf (Siksika Nation) on Thursday, January 28th, 2021 for immediate family only, at 3:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at the Gordon Yellow Fly Memorial Arbor, Siksika Nation on Friday, January 29th, 2021 at 11:30 am. Gravesite service to follow at the Little Chicago Cemetery, Siksika Nation. Due to covid-19 restrictions and limitations, please no children. Funeral Service will be streamed via Zoom, commencing at 11:30 am.
