Richard Daugherty Brentwood, Tennessee Obituary

Richard Daugherty

Richard, 87 years young, of Nashville, Tennessee passed away Saturday, January 16, 2021. Heaven recovered one of its brightest stars that Saturday when Richard returned home. His family was blessed to have been given the gift of his love, care, presence, patience, humor, and wisdom for those 87 remarkable years. He started his wonderful journey in Colliers, West Virginia when his parents Marlin H. and M. Georgetta were excited to welcome their son on May 13,1933. Richard graduated from Follansbee High School, Follansbee, WV. He grew into a man they were proud of by serving our country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War as a Morse Code Operator while stationed in Japan. Then graduating from the College of Steubenville now known as Franciscan University of Steubenville, Ohio. In 1959, Richard married his soulmate Beverly and they moved to Washington D.C. where he attended American University School of Law. He began working for The Kroger Company in 1963. After 37 fulfilling years with the company, he retired in 2000 as the Manager of Information Systems, Nashville Division. Richard’s retirement allowed him to spend more time with Beverly, traveling the world, from the Canadian Rockies, the beautiful countryside of England to relaxing river cruises throughout Europe. The vacations he loved the most were those with family and the beach. But you will not find him in many family vacation photos as Richard loved photography and enjoyed capturing those many magical family moments himself. Richard was a huge sports fan cheering on the Tennessee Titans, and SEC sports, following the University of Tennessee and Vanderbilt football and basketball teams, plus the SEC tournaments. In addition, Richard also enjoyed playing softball, basketball, and golf. Richard really enjoyed any time on the golf course! Richard was able to put the love of people and teaching to use by coaching an elementary school aged baseball team when his children were grown, just for the love of teaching. Yes, Richard enjoyed teaching others; whether it was to play basketball, baseball, golf, repairing a car, or home improvement. Richard also loved serving. He was an active and faithful member of Brentwood United Methodist Church family. He quietly served in many capacities throughout the years and was a long-time member of the Robert I. Moore Sunday School Class. One of his favorite ministries was the Handyman Ministry, where volunteers would help anyone who could not afford or could not complete the needed repair work themselves. Richard is survived by his loving wife Beverly Daugherty of Nashville, TN, Son Kevin (Patricia) Daugherty of Nashville, TN, Daughter Karen (John) Krug, of Midlothian, VA, grandchildren Charles Krug, Robert Krug, Joel Daugherty, brother Doran (Marsha) Daugherty, of Colliers, WV, sister-in-law Hope Daugherty of Hendersonville, NC, and sister-in-law Mary Ann Daugherty of Weirton, WV. Richard is now embraced by his heavenly family who preceded him, his parents Marlin H. and M. Georgetta Daugherty, and siblings, Erdella (William) Hannen, Eugene Daugherty and Robert Daugherty. Richard will be interred at the Brentwood United Methodist Church Columbarium after a private family Celebration of Life.
