Jeanine M. Trotter Obituary

Jeanine M. Trotter, 82, of Island City, Oregon, died at a care facility in Walla Walla, Washington, on January 18, 2021. She was born on December 25, 1938, in Green River, Wyoming, to parents Eugene and Edna Mae Franklin and older brother Jim. Jeanine’s family moved to Oregon in 1941. Jeanine attended Greenwood Elementary, La Grande Jr. High, and La Grande High School. She was a majorette in high school and became the lead majorette her senior year. During her sophomore year, Jeanine spotted classmate Thomas Trotter for the first time and she told her friend she was going to marry him one day. She was right. The pair married the summer following their 1957 graduation and most recently celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on August 17, 2020. Tom and Jeanine welcomed their first son, Jeffrey, in 1959 and in 1961 they welcomed their second son, David. In 1982 David was killed in a car accident in Colorado. Over the years Jeanine worked as a clerk and a bookkeeper at various local businesses before retiring. She and Tom enjoyed traveling, especially to Alaska, Arizona, and Nevada. Jeanine loved to spend time outdoors with her family, mainly hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, skiing, and camping. She also helped with the Buddy Werner ski team at Anthony Lakes. Jeanine’s hobbies later included golfing, playing cards, gardening, visiting the annual Sumpter flea markets, and going to every single garage or yard sale available to her. Anyone who knew Jeanine knew of her love for Fenton glassware and how she cherished each piece in her extensive collection. Jeanine also loved to cheer on the local high school sports teams and she and Tom rarely missed a game. Jeanine had a wonderful sense of humor and was always teasing someone or laughing about something. Tom and Jeanine were blessed with three granddaughters, who quickly took over their lives and their hearts. Since Jeanine had sons, having little girls around to spoil was new to her. She loved to buy the girls Barbies, porcelain dolls, and outfits for every occasion. She even asked Joelle for lessons on how to fix the girls’ hair. Jeanine taught her granddaughters to love Pepsi with chocolate syrup in it, golf course popcorn, butterscotch pudding cups, and Shirley Temples. She tickled their backs, taught them how to play cards, and let them drive the golf cart. Tom and Jeanine spoiled their grandchildren with trips to the Oregon Coast, Silverwood Theme Park, Wallowa Lake, and Yellowstone. They never missed a single game, concert, birthday, or holiday. Jeanine was there for every event, no matter how small, in her granddaughters’ lives. She was the definition of a dedicated grandmother and she is already so missed by her girls. Jeanine was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She also valued the community she and Tom found at the La Grande Country Club. Jeanine loved to play cards and was a member of several card clubs. She was quite social and she cared very deeply for her friends. Jeanine was preceded in death by her parents and her son David. She is survived by her husband, Tom; her son Jeff and daughter-in-law Joelle; her three granddaughters Allie Yundt (Josh), Mackenzie Isaak (Auburn), and Olivia Haynes (Dallin); two great grandchildren Braxton and Brynnley Yundt; and her beloved Yorkie, Itsy. Due to concerns over Covid-19, Jeanine’s memorial service will not be open to the public.
