Bernice (Knight) Welcher

Bernice (Knight) Welcher, 72, wife of Raymond Welcher went peacefully to be with the Lord on January 21, 2021 with her loving family by her side. She was born on July 29, 1948 in Augusta County, Virginia, a daughter of the late John Elmer and Mildred (Jackson) Carroll Knight. Bernice was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She lived a simple and full life. She enjoyed being with her family, cooking, crocheting, and watching westerns. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Welcher was preceded in death by a grandson, Brandon Scott Burke; two brothers, Keith and Woodrow; and two sisters, Shirley and Sylvia. Surviving in addition to her husband of fifty years, are two daughters, Bonita Burke and husband Kevin and Sandra Welcher and fiancé Tyler Huffer; three grandchildren, Tyler and fiancé Kayla Woolridge, Jacob, Whitney and boyfriend J.R. Chaney; four brothers, Raymond (Susan) John (Carolyn), Glenwood (Bonnie), and Danny (Shirley); and a sister, Darlene (Pete). A private family service will be held in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Garey Wilson. Burial will follow in the Craigsville Community Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Kevin Burke, Matthew Mitchell, Jeff Harper, Christopher Spouse, Darren Gregory, and Dennis Grimm. Honorary pallbearers will be grandchildren, Kayla, JR, and JoAnna Shiflett. (Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic all current guidelines and restrictions will be followed.) The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to Augusta Health Hospice nurses, Darlene, Glenwood, and Pennie; special niece, JoAnna Shiflett and special nephew, Michael Knight for all their help and support. Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton, Virginia is in charge of her arrangements.
