William J. Rowan

Bill Rowan, age 68 of Northfield, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday evening, January 21, 2021. William John Rowan was born December 28, 1952, in Northfield, Minnesota, to John “Jack” and Rose (Rezac) Rowan. He was baptized and confirmed at Annunciation Catholic Church and graduated from Northfield High School in 1971. After his education he began working as a carpenter. On August 23, 1975, he married Sandy Eileen Ims at St. John’s Lutheran Church and after marriage they made their home in Northfield. Bill spent his entire career as a carpenter and general contractor, owning and operating Rowan Construction. Sandy passed away on December 31, 2015. Bill was a longtime member of the Cannon River Sportsman Club and enjoyed hunting, fishing and teaching gun safety. Together with Sandy, they enjoyed spending time at their lake home on Portage Lake near Garrison. Bill was kind hearted, generous, giving and had a great sense of humor. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Brent and Jamie Rowan of Plymouth; his daughter and son-in-law, Jana and Brian Whitt of Lakeville; 6 grandchildren, Rachael, Fysher, Grey, Easton, Mia and Ada; 4 sisters, Kathleen (Robert) Maday of Mankato, Margaret (Marvin) Jacobson of Northfield, JoAnne (Philip) Olson Northfield, Laura (Bryan) Haugen of Dennison; 4 brothers, John (Linda), Mike (Julie), Tony (Shelley), Bernard (Melanie), all of Northfield; 2 sisters-in-law, Sharron (Bill) Hokeness of Mankato, Paulette (James T.) Reisinger of Northfield; his brother-in-law, Douglas “Butch” (Sue) Ims of Northfield; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife and parents. Visitation will be held from 4:00PM - 7:00PM, Friday, February 5, 2021, at the Bierman Funeral Home. Due to Covid-19 masks are required and the funeral home will assist with social distancing. Interment will be in Prairie Creek Cemetery, Dennison. A gathering to celebrate Bill’s life will be held at a later date and will be announced. A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM, Thursday, August 12, 2021, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Northfield. Interment will be in Prairie Creek Cemetery, Dennison.
