Donald P. Bellizzi

Donald P. Bellizzi of Newington, husband of Maryse (Carrier) Bellizzi, passed away Wednesday January 20, 2021. Don was born in Hartford on November 21,1951; he was the son of Dominick and MaryJane (Ladd) Bellizzi. After graduating from Boston University and UConn Graduate school he began his 26-year career at Prudential as a financial advisor giving him the financial security to pursue his dream. He became a teacher at St.Gabriels Elementary school in Windsor and in 2000 he went on to become principal at Pope John Paul II School in New Britain. After retirement he spent many happy days substituting in Newington Schools. His love of reading, in particular history, brought him and Maryse to many presidential homes in America. He belonged to Wallingford Rod and Gun Club, and Knights of Columbus Council #3884 Newington serving as Treasurer. He was a lifelong communicant of Annunciation Parrish Church, both Church of the Holy Spirit and St. Mary’s Church. Besides his wife Maryse, Don leaves his son Andrew M. Bellizzi, MD, and partner Rachel Singley, her son Darby of Iowa City, IA., daughter MaryElizabeth and patrner Tim Lins of Mundelin IL., and his adored grandson Aidan. He also leaves his mother MaryJane, and sister Marie of Newington, his sister’s in-law Murielle Boggs of Cromwell, Ginette Barone of South Windsor and Jocelyne Chase of Lowell MA, nieces and nephew, great nieces and nephew, many cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his father and brother James. The family would like to thank the kindness shown by the nurses from Hartford Healthcare at home Hospice Care. Don will be lovingly laid to rest privately in West Meadow Cemetery. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at a future date to be announced when family and friends can gather safely. Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Newington Memorial, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington is serving Don’s family.

I worked with Don at Martin Kellogg in Newington!! I enjoyed his company and conversations each time our paths crossed! He was always smiling and the kids loved him! I was very sad to hear of his passing.
