Byron C. Bateman Obituary

Our Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Friend, Byron C. Bateman, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on January 20th, 2021.

Born on April 19th, 1940 to Clarence and Florence Bateman in Taylorsville, UT.  After his father’s early death, Byron was forced to grow up quickly to help around the house.  Byron excelled at everything he put his mind to and had a knack for remembering every detail.  He was a gifted self-taught musician, playing guitar, bass and steel guitar.  Byron truly enjoyed his music and could often be found on the weekends playing and singing in local clubs around town.  He also immersed himself in Science, Space, History, Nature and anything else he found interesting.  Byron was a lifelong learner.

Byron married his long-time love, Linda G. Webb on August 17th, 1960 in Murray, UT.  In 1973 they moved from Salt Lake City to Palisade, CO to start a career with Denver & Rio Grande Railroad as a Microwave Signal Maintainer.

In 1981 they moved back to Salt Lake City where he continued working for Denver & Rio Grande, Southern Pacific and finally the Union Pacific Railroad.  After a long and successful career, Byron retired in 1999 as a Technical Instructor for the Union Pacific.

Byron is preceded in death by his parents and his only sister Bernice (Bleazard).

He is survived by his wife of 60 years and his sons Brian, Karl (Karen) Bateman and David (Jamie) Bateman, his four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and his two puppies Tiny and SuzieQ.  He will be greatly missed by his family and his close friends.

The family would like to thank the many doctors, nurses, therapists and care-givers at St. Marks Hospital for their loving care in his final days.  We also want to thank Alexa and Kenzie, we so appreciate everything you did to help during this difficult time.  We also want to express our sincere gratitude and appreciation to his friends, Mark and Jef for their unwavering friendship over many years.

In lieu of flowers please consider donating to The American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.  Due to Covid-19 there will be no services, only a private family gathering.

We will always love you and will forever miss you.
