O”CONNELL, “Stricker” Walter G., born in Richmond, Va. on February 27, 1950, passed away on January 19, 2021. He was greeted in heaven by his parents, Manuel and Vernie O’Connell; and brother, Denny O’Connell. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Suzanne O’Connell; twin daughters, Kimberly Dierkes (Aaron) and Kelly Wolfrey (Whit); grandsons, Camden Dierkes, Walter Wolfrey and Tristen Dierkes; brothers, Pat (Vickie) and Jerry O’Connell; and numerous nieces and nephews. Stricker was known to everyone as hardworking and dedicated to his work. He began working at Esso in 1965 and went on to work at Exxon and Woodfin prior to acquiring Cavenaugh Truck Service in 1992. He worked tirelessly to turn Cavenaugh into a successful business where he continued to go to work each and every day, unless he was on vacation. Stricker’s priority and main focus in life was family. He was a proud husband, doting father, loving PawPaw, brother and friend to so many. To him, his greatest accomplishment was building a successful life for his wife and daughters based on hard work and honesty that allowed him to enjoy his favorite things– family beach vacations and gambling. He was truly one of a kind, a gentle soul who never met a stranger, wasn’t afraid to tell it like it was, helped anyone who needed it, even those who didn’t know it and wanted nothing for himself, only to bring joy to those around him, which he succeeded in each and every day. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 30, 1 p.m. at Bliley’s-Chippenham, 6900 Hull Street Rd., with a private burial to follow.
