Lora L. Holy Wisconsin Rapids , Wisconsin Obituary

Lora L. Holy

Lora Lee Holy died on January 21st, 2021 at an Assisted Living Facility in Wisconsin Rapids at age Ninety-three (32,259 days).  Due to current COVID heath precautions, no visitation or funeral service is planned at this time.  Ritchay Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids is assisting the family.  Lora was born April 6th, 1927 to Gail and Earl Liddle in Sparta, Wisconsin.  The youngest of four sisters, her childhood and early adulthood were spent in Platteville, Wisconsin, recalling many happy stories of her best friend Lete Gronbeck.  With her mother dying when she was nine, Lora had a special bond with her older sister Mary Lou, enjoying many adventures together.  July 6th, 1945 she married James A. Holy in Madison, Wisconsin.  Moving back to Platteville she had two children, Sue in 1946 and Jan in 1949.  After spending three years in the Baraboo area they moved to Wisconsin Rapids in 1953, where Jim began his thirty-one and a half year teaching career.  Her third child, Jon arrived in 1954.  Thirteen years were spent at 830 Pear Street conveniently located three blocks from Howe School and two blocks from Lincoln High School.  Like most women at the time Lora was a stay at home mom, yet very active in her children’s education.  She was a proofreader at the Daily Tribune at the time of the Kennedy assassination.  Having successfully taught her children how to have fun in life, Lora went back to college and graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point with High Honors.  She was very happy to become a Fifth Grade teacher at Washington School from 1968-1988, which brought great joy and purpose to her life.  Thanks to two teaching incomes, Lora and Jim purchased forty acres on the corner of Townline Road and 32nd Street.  There they designed and help build a beautiful A frame home they enjoyed until 1989.  From 1990 – 2020 Lora lived in an amazing home on the Ten Mile (Silver Creek Trail-which she named), and interestingly enough she had the same phone number for fifty-two years.  She relocated to The Waterford Assisted Living facility in early September 2020.  Her family would like to thank the caring and compassionate staff of the Memory Care unit there and Heartland Hospice staff for their much-appreciated efforts in helping Lora and family.  Throughout her life Lora was a Happy Camper! Crystal Lake near Sayner, Wisconsin was always a special place, and every summer she would rendezvous with her other three sisters at Point Beach just north of Two Rivers.  Lora and Jim loved to travel the globe, from the Canadian Rockies to New Zealand’s North Shore and many places in between.  From the early 90’s to Jim’s death in 99 they spent their winters in Arizona swimming, biking, exploring and eating grapefruit.  Lora made numerous life long friends in the Rapids area, with a special thanks to all those wonderful gals at the YMCA water aerobics classes!  She loved making people laugh and always looked on the bright side of life.  A lifelong Packer and Badger’s fan she also was a common sight at her grandsons sporting events in Port Edwards.  Lora was preceded in death by her husband, three sisters and two nieces.  She is survived by her children Suzanne (Ted) Garver…Ohio, Jan (Sharon) Holy…Port Edwards, and Jon (Anne) Holy…Superior, seven grandchildren Thad (Melissa) Garver…Lori (Sylvan) Kavanaugh…Jennifer (Aaron) Brosch…Jon (Missy) Garver all in Ohio…Benjamin (Christin) Holy, Minnesota…Christopher Holy, California…and Alexandra Holy, Chicago…She is also survived by nine great grandchildren, Sophia and Anna Grace (Garver)…Jacob, Kiran and Theo (Kavanaugh)…Olivia and Graeson (Brosch)…Dylan and Lucy (Garver) plus one on the way, and six nieces and five nephews.  “May the long time sun shine upon you – All love surround You – And the pure light within You – Guide Your way Home”  “You will always be in our hearts and will be missed dearly”
