Ethel Louise Merritt, 82, of Coldwater passed away Thursday, January 21, 2021 at ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital. A celebration of life will be held for Ethel Saturday, February 6, 2021 at 2:00 PM at the Northview Christian Church in Coldwater with Pastor Jeff Bream officiating. She was born May 10, 1938 to Bert and Helen (Fisk) Morris in Coldwater, MI. On June 23, 1956 she married Gene E. Merritt in Angola, IN and he preceded her in death on October 30, 2007. Ethel had kept busy employed in factory work but ultimately worked as bookkeeper for her husband Gene’s electrical business. She enjoyed reading, knitting, and crocheting; but what her and Gene both loved was camping. They both adored their camping adventures to the Upper Peninsula and to their favorite place Sue Sault Marie to watch the ships together. Ethel is survived by her daughter Trudy (Bruce) Harker of Sturgis; her sister Gladys (Robert) Foulk of Coldwater; her three grandchildren Christopher Cline, Carrie (Paul) Funk, Gene Cline; three great grandchildren Andrew Funk, Connor Funk, Ethan Funk, and her loving nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Gene, she was preceded in death by her parents, her infant son Ralph, one sister Evelyn Merkle, and her two brothers Bert and Richard Morris. Memorial donations are suggested to the Northview Christian Church in Coldwater. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater.
