Verna Maxine Davy Obituary

Verna Davy, 74 of Spring Hill Florida passed away on January 21, 2021. She was born in Maine and grew up in Antrim New Hampshire. Verna is survived by her daughter Bridget Clemons, her son Joseph Davy Jr., her 3 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, her oldest sister, and many nieces and nephews. Verna will be laid to rest in the spring, at Maplewood Cemetery in Antrim New Hampshire next to her husband of 41 years, Joseph Davy Sr. Verna fell in love with Joseph, and married in 1962. She had 2 children, and was devoted to them, always wanting the best. When her children were young, she would work in the school cafeteria and library to be close to them. Once her children were out of elementary school, she went to work at Monadnock Community Hospital as the head of the Housekeeping Department, Crotched Mountain in the kitchen as a cook, and she ended her working career at Osram Sylvania in the factory making light bulbs, which she took great pride in. After her children had grown, and moved out, she enjoyed spending time at the Moose club listening to music, and dancing with her husband. She started going to church with her husband, was baptized on June 23rd of 1991 and became a member of the Antrim Baptist Church on June 30th of 1991. Verna was a faithful member of the Antrim Baptist Church. She was a Trustee and Church Treasurer for many years. She helped out in the Food Pantry and would donate supplies. She also took pride in her ability to make donations to the general fund, to be use where ever needed. Verna and Joe enjoyed spending time with their son and his family at barbeques and family gatherings. They loved to travel, taking road trips to Florida a few times a year to visit their daughter, and eventually her husband. Verna loved to give back in her quiet, special way. For years, she was a member of a not for profit group called “Angels for Hope”. She would crochet angels and butterflies and send them to families all over the country, and occasionally the world that were going through tragedies such as family members and friends with serious illness and or death. Verna lost her husband in 2003 and found herself searching for a new purpose. She eventually decided, with her sister that they wanted to give to a Native American Reservation in South Dakota. They proceeded to collect enough donations to fill her new Ford Ranger. They decided to take a road trip to South Dakota to deliver those donations. This was the beginning of many trips she and her sister would take together. They traveled to Rangely Maine where she got side swiped by a Moose, which her family would not let her forget. They also took a trip to Texas to help her niece move. This desire to do road trips earned them the nickname “Thelma and Louise” by her son in law. In 2005 Verna felt like she needed a change so she moved to Florida with her daughter and son in law. She continued to enjoy taking trips on occasion back to New Hampshire, and Texas, to visit family. She would crochet angels, knit socks, make winter hats and donate to her church in New Hampshire. Even when Verna could no longer travel she would continue to watch over her family and friends from a distance. She would read the Stonebridge paper and stay current on all the happenings in New Hampshire. She always kept her family in her prayers, and expressed her desire for them to be healthy and happy. Verna would find joy in the small things, such as Saturday morning shopping trips, listening to gospel music on her computer, doing puzzles on facebook and watching shows about Alaska and New England. Although Verna is no longer with us on earth, we know that she is still with us in spirit, looking over us from above. She is now at peace, with the Lord our God, and her husband as well as others that have gone before her. We will all miss her, but we need to take solace in knowing that we will see her again.
