William Edward Burton

William Edward Burton departed this life on Friday, January 22, 2021, at Cadia Healthcare Center, Millsboro DE., following a brief illness. William was born a twin on Thursday, December 24, 1931, to the late Florence and Herbert Lee Burton Sr. in Millsboro, DE. William received his education in the Millsboro School District. He served in the U.S. Army, and made his permanent residence in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He returned to Delaware recently to be around his family, whom he loved dearly. William loved serving the Lord and going to church whenever he could. He often would say ‘I love the Lord, and God is a good God’. He had a kind and loving spirit, making all who were in his presence, feel special. His favorite football teams were Pittsburgh Steelers & Philadelphia Eagles. He was given a nickname "Billy the Kid", for his accurate pool shooting skills. He won 1st place in many tournaments. He also was called Oop by his friends. William can be remembered also for his sharp dressing, stylish hats & sunshades. He would often be heard asking "Where is my hat?”. He loved his family and often told stories of working on their farm, and the lazy mules, he was tired of...laugh. William was preceded in death by his wife, Delores Burton; sisters, Frances Hardcastle, Agnus Tankard, Anna Showell, Dorothy Byrd, and Mary Ida Taylor (his twin); brothers, Herbert Lee Jr, & John Burton. Upon departing this earth, William leaves to mourn, his children, Carlos Tingle (Lorraine) Upper Marlboro MD., Theresa Perry (Warren), Bridgeville DE., Priscilla Tingle, Johnstown PA, and Sandra Tingle and Sheila Joyner (Earl) of Philadelphia, PA; brothers, Nelson Burton (Mary), Charles Burton, Joseph Burton, Oliver Burton; sisters, Martha Wise (Junior), Faye Burton and Princess Purnell, all of Delaware; Patsy Taylor, his niece of Philadelphia, whom he was close to; Beatrice Sample, a very dear friend, who often spent time with him, driving him to various restaurants and enjoying his company; 11 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces & nephews and friends. *ONE DAY HE SHALL WEAR A CROWN* Lovingly Submitted, The Family
