<p>The Reverend George Clinton Godfrey, 87, died on Wednesday January 20, 2021 after several months of declining health, at the Acts Manor House in Seaford, DE. Born in Millsboro, DE he was the son of Robert Elwood and Alberta Torbert Godfrey.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Preston Elwood and Charles Robert.</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Rev. Godfrey is survived by his wife of 67 years, Carolyn Leister Godfrey; his son Guy Michael (Mary Lou) of Tampa, FL; two daughters Beverly Ann (Jamie) of Philadelphia, PA and Marybeth Bounds (Christian) of Salisbury, MD; and a sister Betty Godfrey Mitchell of South Port, NC.&nbsp; Additionally, he had four grandchildren: Charles Franklin Godfrey (Katherine) of Gore, VA; and Catherine, Elizabeth, and Garrett Bounds of Salisbury, MD as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He will be remembered as a gentle, loving man who had a servant&rsquo;s heart. He leaves quite a legacy for his family.</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Mr. Godfrey attended Millsboro Schools. He graduated from Wesley Junior College (Dover DE), American University and Wesley Seminary (Washington DC). George was an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church (UMC). He served the following appointments/positions: Blades Charge (Blades DE); Conference Director of Camp and Youth Work (Centreville MD); Baldwin Community Church (Pittsburgh, PA); St. Paul&rsquo;s UMC (Wilmington, DE); St John&rsquo;s UMC (Seaford, DE); Wesley UMC (Dover, DE); Bethesda UMC (Salisbury, MD). After retiring from full-time ministry in 1996, he served both Millville UMC (Millville DE) and Atlantic UMC (Ocean City, MD) part-time. He retired for the third time at 80 years of age. Ministry was his calling, his life, and he gave it his all. He touched many lives and hearts and will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; A memorial service may be scheduled after COVID restrictions are lifted. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial gifts be made to Pecometh Camp and Retreat Ministries (136 Bookers Wharf Rd. Centreville, MD 21617) or to any of the churches he served.&nbsp;</p>
