It is with deep sadness that announce the passing of our father Egidio Barbadoro at the age of 95. Like our mother, he was part of a generation who came to this country with nothing, but through hard work and sacrifice, managed to provide a wonderful life for himself and his family. One of his first jobs was at St. Joseph’s Hospital as an assistant to the Nuns, until one day he was asked to help in the Purchasing department. Eventually he would head that Department. Of course, acting as translator for the new seamstress at the hospital would be his greatest duty as eventually he would marry her. He worked as the Purchasing agent responsible for opening what is today Health Sciences North once St. Joseph’s closed and remained there until he retired to pursue his passion of gardening, working at the Inco Greenhouse both above and below ground. He was always community minded and was the inspiration and founding member of the Bocce Courts at Robinson Playground, bringing many hours of enjoyment to him and those of the neighbourhood. He also inspired the Rainbow Route from Moonglow to Robinson Playground, “so the kids can come and play”. We are happy with the knowledge that he is finally reunited with our mother Gabriella, to whom he was married for 50 years. He leaves behind his son Mauro (Penny), his daughter Giulia (David) Langlois and his two grand-daughters Michela and Kate whom he cherished dearly. He also leaves behind many special friends who spent time with him and reached out to him often. Despite COVID rules, it was Dad’s request to have no visitation or service. Instead he asked that you open a bottle of Italian wine and have a toast in his honour. In Egidio’s memory, donations to the Health Sciences North Foundation would be appreciated.
