Margaret Slagle Obituary

Margaret Helen Slagle, of Grants Pass, OR, passed away in Grants Pass on January 19, 2021, at the age of 87. She is survived by her 3 children and their families: Mike (Marilyn) Slagle of Grants Pass; Kathy (Randy) Madsen of Tucson, AZ; and Betty Slagle of Houston, TX. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Robert B. Slagle, to whom she was married for 48 years until his death in 1998, and her son Steve Slagle. Margaret spent her entire life in Southern Oregon. She was born in Klamath Falls to Dewey Raymond Byrne and Mildred Byrne. She spent her childhood in Medford and moved to Brookings where she graduated from high school in 1950. She married Robert Slagle in 1950 and moved to Grants Pass in 1953 where she spent the rest of her life. If you asked Margaret about the best part of her life, she would tell you it was being a wife and mother. She supported her 4 children’s activities, including music, scouts, and sports. Any of her kids’ friends at the house at dinner time were always welcome to join us provided they called home to let their mother know. She loved good food and prepared wonderful meals for her family. When the kids were young and R.B. needed to work late, she packed up food and kids into the car to have dinner all together at RB’s shop. Margaret was employed for 23 years at Josephine Memorial Hospital as a medical transcriptionist. She was also an active volunteer in the community. She delivered Meals on Wheels for 18 years and was a volunteer at Lovejoy Hospice for 10 years. She also enjoyed reading and served as a volunteer at the Josephine Community Library Foundation. Margaret will be greatly missed by her family. We are so thankful for the memories of her laughter, compassion for others, and unwavering love. Donations may be made to any of the following: Josephine Community Library Foundation, Meals on Wheels, or Coats for Kids in your area. There will be a private burial for Margaret at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
