Edith (Jean) E. Byers (93) died at home January 13, 2021 in Anchorage, Alaska. Born February 21, 1927, in Oklahoma to Ernest Moore and Mildred Edwards Moore. Jean married Fred Byers in 1947 at Ft. Richardson, Alaska. After a trip back to California Fred and Jean drove the Alcan Highway with two infants and settled as permanent residents of Alaska in 1949. They lived in Anchorage and Indian over the past 70 years. Jean was active in many Christian ministries during her attendance at Lake Spenard Baptist; Sand Lake Baptist; Grace Brethren; Indian Valley Chalet and she was currently attending Baxter Road Bible Church. For many years she was active in leading Good News Clubs for children as well as training others to be leaders. Jean had many hobbies and was a blue-ribbon winner in wood working, sewing, crocheting and was and avid gardener. She was a member of the YMCA, Alaska Creative Scrollers/ Woodworkers groups. Jean enjoyed outdoor activities, berry picking and hiking. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Mildred Moore; daughter-in-law, Judy Byers; son-in-law, Dan Sager; grandson, Jacob Sager; and granddaughter, Rayanne Severson. Survivors include her husband Fred and their children: Nellie (Jeff) Anthony; Nancy Gushee; Ernie Byers; Becky (Wes) Severson; Phillip Byers; Tim (Cathy) Byers; Alice (George) Marvin; Lorna (Tracy) VanHee. Twenty-six grandchildren and fifty-three great/great-great-grandchildren and her sisters Mickey, Mary, Joyce and Betty. A family gathering was held January 18th in Anchorage and a Celebration of Life may be announced later.
