Edward Patrick Murphy Obituary

Edward Patrick Murphy, 85, of Milford, beloved husband of 54 years to Dorene (Samsel) Murphy, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 21, 2021.  Born on September 19, 1935 in Boston, MA, Ed was the son of the late Edward L. and Marie (Holland) Murphy.

Ed was a graduate of Milford High School and shortly thereafter proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps.  Upon leaving the service, he was employed with the Norden Division of United Technology in the area of field service and sales, eventually hiring his wife-to-be as his secretary.  They both left their work with Norden five years later to begin a family and to fulfill Ed’s desire to run his own business, which he did opening the Salt Meadow Shell service station and auto repair on Lordship Boulevard, Stratford.

Ed loved all things Boston Red Socks and UCONN Women’s Basketball.  He had a life-long passion for nature and the outdoors and spent as many vacations as possible camping, canoeing, hiking, fishing and exploring; bringing with his family anyone interested in joining the caravan.

He was an enthusiastic contributor to the life at the Wildermere Beach Congregational Church, over the years, serving as Council President, Deacon, Lay Leader, Choir Member and prayer warrior. He remained an active participant as long as he could.

Ultimately, Ed cherished any time spent in the company of family and friends, and often strangers alike, enjoying conversation, stories and laughter.

In addition to his loving wife, Ed is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Daniel Niver III; his sister and brother-in-law in Florida, Mary Ann and Roland Jim Montgomery; including many cousins, nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Robert Polek.

The family wishes to acknowledge the many, gracious kindnesses offered them during this time beginning with the hospital staff, doctors, nurses, hospice care, friends and family near and far.

The previously scheduled Memorial Service for Saturday, February 13, 2021 has been CANCELED. A portion of the worship service on Sunday, February 14, 2021 will be dedicated to Ed's memory. To join virtually please visit the church's website, https://wbcc.freeonlinechurch.com/live.
