Donald H. Stover, age 63, passed away Wednesday evening, January 20,
2021 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
A celebration of his life will be held Sunday, January 31, 2021 at the
former Creekside Community Brew Coffeehouse (now Espressions Coffee
Roasting Co.) at 110 S. 2nd Street in downtown Greenville, IL. The
celebration will begin at 2:00 p.m. with a remembrance service held at
3:00 p.m. After the service, food and drink will be provided. Friends
are encouraged to bring an adult beverage or two and raise their glasses
in a toast to Don. The celebration will continue into the evening. Masks
and social distancing are encouraged, with CDC guidelines followed using
hand sanitizer upon entry.
Donald Hollie, the son of Dan E. and Rosa Lee (Brennan) Stover, was born
August 10, 1957 in Centralia, Illinois. Don grew up in Centralia,
graduated from Centralia High School, and continued his education at
Kaskaskia College and Southern Illinois University Carbondale, majoring
in Communications.
Known as a Jack of All Trades and a master of many, Don worked in radio
at WILY in Centralia, WPMB in Vandalia, and WGEL in Greenville. His
career also included positions at Petty Company in Effingham, Heidelburg
Printing International (Midwest region), I.E. Communications in Trenton,
and at NEVCO Scoreboard in Greenville installing and repairing
Scoreboards and Message Centers across the U.S.
Additionally Don and his wife, Jan, owned and operated a number of
businesses together throughout their marriage and careers including The
Cupboard Natural Food Shoppe in Centralia, IL, Don's Uniques and
Repairs, the Owl Creek Gazette, Creekside with Don and Jan podcast, and
Creekside Community Brew Coffeehouse all located in Greenville, IL.
Don's hobbies and interests included re-purposing, repairing, recycling
and inventing, barbequing, guitar playing, politics (libertarian style),
and serving as a brew-master of anything that brewed. Don was also a ham
radio operator (KB9EGI) and a long time member of the Okaw Valley
Amateur Radio Club in Greenville.
Don and Jan (Jones) were united in marriage on October 21,1979 in
Vandalia, Illinois in an outdoor ceremony. They enjoyed 41 years together.
Don is survived by his wife, Jan Stover, and their two sons: Zac Stover
(and wife Jamie Giganti-Stover) and Gabe Stover (and fiancé Maggie Cass)
all four of San Diego, California; his two brothers: David (and wife
Janet) of Springfield, IL, and Danny (and wife Linda) of Centralia; his
brother-in-law, Jeff Jones (and wife Deb Matheny) of Vandalia, IL; along
with his nephews and nieces, and his sweet cat, P2. He was a happy
grandfather to 4 grand-puppies as well.
