Bryan D. Counts, M.D. Obituary

Bryan Dale Counts, born 10/24/1955, passed from this world into the presence of the Lord on 1/20/21 at 8:44 PM. He was the second son of Neeld Whitaker Counts and Carol Jean Counts neé Burton. Bryan had 3 siblings: Bradley, Laura, and Brent. Bryan was born and raised in Markham, IL. He was valedictorian of his high school class and attended Medical School at Northwestern University in Chicago. He earned his MD in 1980 and completed his Family Practice Residency at McNeil Hospital in Berwyn, Illinois in 1983. Bryan moved his family of three to Wheaton, Illinois and worked as a family physician for Wheaton Medical Clinic. Three years later Bryan and Carol joined SIM International and served as medical missionaries in the Republic of Guinea on the West Coast of Africa. Health concerns on Bryan’s part brought the family back to the United States in 1990. His day job for the next 23 years was Immediate Care through Palos Community Hospital in Illinois. Bryan’s passion was serving the Lord. He had the privilege of serving Parker Road Bible Church as a deacon, elder, Sunday School teacher and Superintendent, AWANA leader, and men’s small group leader. Bryan and Carol followed their first grandchild to the beautiful state of Colorado in 2013. Bryan took a management position with Concentra and served on the prayer team at Southern Gables Church. Additional health concerns on Bryan’s part took him out of the active leadership role in the church that he had previously pursued. Bryan leaves behind his wife Carol Jeanette Counts neé Richard; three children: Deborah (Joshua) Horton, Mary (Daniel) Keener, Michael Counts; his sister Laura Counts; and six grandchildren: Emily, Caleb, David, Audrey, JJ, and Thomas. Bryan was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Bradley and Brent. He leaves behind his wife, three children, and six grandchildren. Bryan will be laid to rest on 1/25/21 at Seven Stones Botanical Gardens Cemetery. Bryan’s life demonstrated how much power and strength and accomplishment can come from being gentle, kind, soft-spoken and humble. Those who knew him and loved him would testify that this power-through-gentleness came from his faithful adherence to the teachings of his Lord and Master, Jesus Christ.
