Winifred C. Peterson

On Wednesday, January 13, 2021 Winifred “Winnie” Carolyn Peterson peacefully passed away at the age of 90. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Winnie was born September 2, 1930 in Denver Colorado to Fred G. and Laura M. Peterson. She graduated in 1947 from South High School in Denver. She then attended the University of Denver. She was quite active while in college in various clubs and academics, including Mortar Board, Honorary ROTC, Kappa Delta Sorority, and Dean’s Advisory Council to name a few. She graduated Magna Cum- Laude with a degree in Home Economics and Education. Winnie married Allen Lee Peterson on June 16th, 1952, whom she met while attending DU. They moved to San Francisco where he was stationed while in the US Army. Upon discharge they moved to Kimball Nebraska, where Allen farmed & ranched while Winnie taught at the High School. They have a daughter Carolyn Lee who was born in Kimball in 1957. Once Carolyn was born, she retired from teaching but continued as a substitute teacher in the area. In 1972 the family moved to Fort Collins Colorado. They subsequently moved to Castle Rock Colorado in 1979, where she made her home for the remainder of her life. In each residence, Winne was very active in a variety of the local Methodist Church functions and clubs. She also was a lifetime member of AAUW as well as P.E.O, two organizations that promote and support the education of young women. She was an avid bridge player and belonged to several bridge groups. She enjoyed walking, drives in the mountains, and lunches and other social events with her oodles of friends. Her family meant the world to her, especially her 2 granddaughters. One would frequently see her cheering them on at their various activities and sporting events, including swim meets, lacrosse games, and school programs. Winifred was proceeded in death by her parents Fred & Laura Peterson, and by her husband Allen Lee Peterson. She is survived by her daughter Carolyn Hudek, son-in-law John Hudek, granddaughters, Erin BonSalle (Brad) and Lindsey DiLoreto (Paul). Great grandsons, Booker BonSalle, Deacon BonSalle, Enzo DiLoreto and Great granddaughter Faye DiLoreto. She was Aunt Winnie to several nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly as well. Funeral arrangements will be held Wednesday, January 27 at First United Methodist Church, 1200 South Street, Castle Rock, CO. Due to Covid restrictions attendance will be limited, please contact family for reservations. The service will be livestreamed on Wednesday, January 27 starting at 10:00 AM.
