“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others” Gandhi Frank Renales Jr 71, passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2021 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, North Carolina after a brief illness. Frank was born September 28, 1949 in Newark, New Jersey. Volunteering to help others was the meaning of life for Frank. Over the years, he sought out various opportunities to make a difference in the lives of others in New Jersey and North Carolina. As a driver to Brooklyn, NY, Frank made numerous trips over the years delivering food for “The Barn for the Poorest of the Poor.” He also delivered meals for the Middletown, NJ “Meals on Wheels” program which gave him great joy. While residing in North Carolina, Frank and his buddies volunteered weekly at the Grace Methodist Church Soup Kitchen where he was known as the “official dishwasher.” Most recently, Frank and the guys became the first group of volunteers for the “Neighbor to Neighbor” program in Brunswick County, NC. This group of volunteers transports patients to their medical appointments and delivers food, groceries, and other household supplies to the home bound. Before making the move south to North Carolina in 2018, Frank spent 26 years working for DeDietrich Process Systems in Mountainside, NJ. He was the inside sales rep for chemical and pharmaceutical companies which manufacture large glass lined vessels in the US and other countries. Frank was a Eucharistic Minister and an active Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus while residing in NJ. Then during the last two years, he graduated from both the New Hanover County and Brunswick County Sheriff’s Citizens Law Enforcement Academies and became a member of the VIPR Patrol, Volunteer Intervention Prevention Response for New Hanover County. Besides volunteering his time, Frank had a passion for boating and spending yearly vacations with friends in Aruba. He loved to travel and his laughter was contagious. Frank is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Alice (Walsh) Renales, his mother Ethel Mendez, brother Walter Rodriguez; in-laws, John Walsh, Carol and Mark VanSeveren, Joseph and Nancy Walsh; nieces and nephews, Allison, Jill, Katie, Brian, Michael, and Megan; plus many great nieces and nephews.
