Judith Calloway Obituary

Judith Faye Calloway, age 77 of Brooksville, Florida passed away Wednesday, January 20th surrounded by her family. She was born in Cullman, Alabama but moved to Sidney, Ohio as a young girl. Her family moved again to Hardin, Ohio where she met her soulmate Donn Calloway as a freshman in high school and he was a senior. They dated throughout high school and after she graduated she married her soulmate August 27, 1961. They started their family a year later with their first born child, Michelle (Shellee), then 16 months later came the second child, Judith (Diann) and then two years later their final child Barbara (Barby) made the family complete. Ohio winters were extremely cold and they decided to make their way to sunny Florida in 1968. They were one of the first 100 homes in Spring Hill, Florida when Mackle Brothers were building new dream locations. There wasn’t anything in Spring Hill at that time. They had to travel to New Port Richey to the grocery store, there were no schools in Spring Hill at the time and Spring Hill Drive stopped where Kass Circle is now. In order to get to school the girls had to ride the bus from the entrance of Spring Hill down Hwy. 19 to Hwy. 50. Times have sure changed since those early days. Judi’s first job was a hostess at the Holiday Inn (Weeki Wachee) at night. She soon left that job for a secretarial position with Grace United Presbyterian Church which she dearly loved. Dr. Paul Clemons, Pastor was a wonderful man and lived right behind them. After leaving the church she got a job at Hernando State Bank where she began as a teller and worked her way up the corporate ladder to become administrative assistant to the president of the bank, David Alberson. She met many wonderful people and continued friendships with them until the time she got sick. Judi left the bank and then made her way to the school system. She started at D.S. Parrot Middle School as a school secretary but wasn’t there long when she transferred to Central High School. She made her home at CHS as the discipline secretary and again worked with some of the most amazing people and loved it there. She also loved being there while all of her grandchildren went through school at CHS. While working at CHS she also worked full time at Winn Dixie in Brooksville in the Bakery Department and then left Winn Dixie and went to work at Walmart in the Bakery Department. She worked two full-time jobs for ten years. She was an extremely hard worker. CHS was losing an allocation and she transferred to Weeki Wachee High School when she didn’t want to be the bookkeeper at CHS. She went to WWHS as the front desk receptionist. She was only there for 2 years when she again decided to transfer to F.W. Springstead High School. She worked there for several years when she finally decided to retire at the age of 75. She loved working at SHS because she loved the people that she had met. After retiring she enjoyed crafting, babysitting her great grandchildren and spending time with her soulmate and daughters. Crafting was pure enjoyment and especially when her daughters would come over and craft with her. Judi is survived by her husband, Donn E. Calloway and their three daughters Shellee Johnston (James), Diann Kessler (Buddy) and Barby LeBlanc (Gary), six grandchildren (Philip, Christopher, Jared, Kallee, Felicia and Hunter) and nine great grandchildren (Austin, Ryleigh, Talon, Adelyn, Wesley, Willow, Alice, Kaiser and Keira), her brothers Grant Rodgers (Peggy) and Brady Rodgers (Vickie) and sister Gwyn Pinson, Aunt Elizabeth McClellan and lots of nieces and nephews. There will be no service because she didn’t want one but if you want to give a donation please consider HPH Hospice Pasco/Hernando. They cared for her alongside her family for two weeks and were always available when the family called to ask questions or needed help. Judi would love to thank all of you that came to visit over the past couple of months and/or called, texted messages or sent a card of love and support.
