Jacquelyn W. Watson Obituary

Jacquelyn W. Watson, 99, of Bloomfield, CT, loving wife of the late Vincent W. Watson for 72 years, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2021. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her daughter, Marilyn. She leaves her son, Bill and his wife Marcia of Bloomfield; her grandchildren, Adam and his wife, Lori of Brooklyn, NY, and Jennifer Mackowski and her husband, Chris of Granby; and her four great grandchildren, Alexandra and Nico Watson and Tyler and Alyssa Mackowski. Jackie was born on February 14, 1921 in Union, MS, the youngest of 17 children. She graduated from high school in 1939 and, following a year of Business College, moved to Jackson, TN. There, she met Vincent, a soon-to-be ordained Methodist minister, whom she married on March 2, 1942. Her life with Vin led to a series of moves as he served congregations in Reno, NV, Jackson, MS, Bellport, NY, Rockville Centre, NY, Forestville, CT, New Britain, CT, Clinton, CT and lastly, their retirement home in Bloomfield in 1981. Jackie was a volunteer! She served as Sunday School teacher, Choir mother, Girl and Boy Scout leader, a local and district officer of the United Methodist Women, a Methodist Retreat Leader, and in The School of Christian Mission as Vice President of the Spiritual Life, Outreach and Community Relations Committees. With retirement, Jackie continued her church activities in the Bloomfield United Methodist Church as a member of several committees: Nominations, Outreach and Membership. She added several community organizations to her list. Meals on Wheels, Literacy Volunteer, the Home Share Program at the Village for Children and Families. The last leading to 11 years as a court appointed Special Advocate for Children in Placement. Jackie loved her family and particularly enjoyed hosting any and all at their Bloomfield home for holiday and birthday celebrations. She was a wonderful cook with her Southern roots exemplified by her "famous" fried chicken, pecan pie, fried apricot pie, and banana pudding. In her retirement years, she and Vin ventured into the life of the Shakers, visiting many of their communities, studying their history, and collecting their furniture and everyday artifacts. Jackie developed close relations with several Shaker sisters and, ultimately, became noted as a prominent speaker at Shaker conferences. Throughout her volunteer career, personal relationships, and correspondence, she always tried to be a friend. This is the way she wishes to be remembered - as a friend. There are no calling hours and the burial will be private. A memorial service is planned for a future, yet to be determined, date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the charity of your choice and be a friend to someone in need.
