Dong Van Huynh Obituary

Dong Huynh, 64 years of age, passed away at Valley Medical Center on January 19th, 2021 after a valiant battle with Covid-19. He is survived by Anna (mother), Hong (wife), Jennifer (daughter), Bang (son in law), Kora (granddaughter), Thu (sister), Quan (brother), Tuan (brother), Kiet (brother), Connie (sister), Tien (brother), Thanh (brother), Jenny (sister), Duy (brother), as well as many in laws, nieces, and nephews. Dong was born on February 19th, 1956 in Vietnam. At a young age, he faced many adversities. He was jailed by the communist in his teenage years and served almost a decade in prison. During this time, they injured his body and made him lose the majority of his hearing. However, fate unraveled and he was able to be introduced to his wife, Hong. In 1991, him and his family migrated to the United States. He came to the country with zero English but worked hard to earn his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering at the University of Washington. After working at Boeing for a few years, he transferred to Washington State Department of Transportation, where it became his work home for the next twenty plus years. At school and work, he made numerous friends and became a mentor to many. Anyone who knew Dong, knew him as a simple and selfless man. He not only took care of his family, but helped many other families in whatever they needed. Although he only had one child, many viewed him as a father figure. Dong is also a great story teller. His knowledge is extensive, expanding to all different fields. His voice and presence always filled the room, so every time he spoke, he was able to capture everyone's attention. In the last few years of his life, he developed renal failure, forcing him to spend 12 hours of each week in a dialysis center. It was time consuming and sometimes even very painful, however, he never once complained. He still came home everyday shouting "hello" to everyone and was always cheerful. Dong loved all and was loved by all. He truly is an irreplaceable being. His family and friends miss him dearly and will remember him for eternity. "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life" -John 3:16
