Victoria Lee Smeltzer of Sandy, Utah passed away on January 19, 2021 at the age of 64 years old.

Victoria was born Victoria Lee Millar in Portland, Oregon on June 18, 1956. She was the daughter of Theordore Millar and Emily Millar and the oldest of three (Victoria, Doug, Pam). She met her husband-to-be, David Smeltzer, at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah in March 1975. Six months later, they were married in the Provo Community Church on September 26, 1975 then later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple for time and all eternity September 26, 1978. They began to raise their family in Sandy, Utah where they remained happily married for 45 years.

Together, they raised eight children, four sons (Joshua, Adam, Aaron, Jason) and four daughters (Rachel, Sarah, Breann, and Emie) with one son (Aaron) who preceded her in death. Joshua and his wife, Claudia, live in Frisco, Texas with their two children, Theodore and Adayla. Adam and his wife, Brooke, live in West Jordan, Utah with their two children, Hunter and Peyton. Aaron preceded Victoria in death but his wife, Melissa, remains in Seattle, Washington with her son, Noah. Jason and his wife, Rattana, live in Saratoga Springs, Utah with their two children, Kaden and Malee. Rachel and her husband, Robert, live in Henderson, Nevada with their two children, Jack and Audrey. Sarah and her husband, Erik, live in Midvale, Utah with their son, Atlas. Breann lives at the Smeltzer home. Emie and her husband, Jeff live in Sandy, Utah. All together, Victoria and David enjoyed spending time with their 10 grandchildren.

Victoria was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother. She led with quiet strength and always sacrificed her needs and resources for the good of her family. She stood by David’s side and valiantly took on the role of primary caregiver when David became ill in the later years of their marriage. She was the perfect example of loyalty, long-suffering, patience, charity, faith, and selfless service. She will be remembered as the glue that held the Smeltzer family together.

She enjoyed sewing, stitching, crocheting, and quilting. She used these talents to gift her children, grandchildren and others with her homemade clothes, blankets, and toys. Family history was important to her so she enjoyed gathering family photos and documenting them in photo books. She worked hard to make her house a home by making home cooked meals, homemade chocolates, and everyone will remember her famous homemade rolls.

While Victoria spent a portion of her life having her children and raising her family, she went back to school to finish her education knowing she would need it to provide for her family. While finishing her Bachelor’s degree, she worked at an elementary school for Sudanese refugees. At the age of 50, she graduated with a Masters in Vocational Rehabilitation at the University of Utah. Being fluent in sign language, she started her career working for the State of Utah as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor for the deaf, hard of hearing, and persons with disabilities. She remained at her career for 14 successful years where she found great joy in serving her clients. She happily retired in October 2020.

Her faith was strong in Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ as a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. From the time that she was diagnosed with Stage 4 brain cancer in December 2020 til the time she was called home to heaven in January 2021, she loved and lived every moment she was given. Neither hard times nor cancer would rob her from faith in God’s plan. She passed comfortably and peacefully in her sleep in the comfort of her own home surrounded by the love of her husband and children.

Memorial services will be conducted Saturday, January 23, 2021 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1380 West 6785 South, West Jordan, UT 84084. A closed casket viewing and visitations will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. MST. The funeral service will follow at 12:00 pm MST with Bishop Pearmain officiating. Following the funeral service, we will proceed to the burial service at Sandy City Cemetery, 700 East 9000 South, Sandy, UT 84070.

In lieu of flowers, charitable donations to Shriners Hospitals for Children in Salt Lake City, Utah are appreciated.
