Benny Ray Stockstill, age 73, passed away Monday January 18th at Slidell Memorial Hospital with family at his side.
A native of Picayune, MS, he was the only son and eldest child of Ray and Vestal Stockstill. Following a whirlwind courtship, he married the love of his life, Sharon. Shortly after marrying, he was drafted by the Army and stationed in Germany where he served as a missile technician. Benny worked for the telephone company in Carriere for 37 years. Following his retirement in 2009, he enjoyed traveling with his wife and wood working. Benny never met a stranger, always had a smile and a friendly word for everyone who knew him. He took great pride in his family and was a favorite uncle to his many nieces and nephews.
Benny is preceded in death by his parents, and his granddaughter, Briana Alane Dekemel. Left to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife of over 52 years, Sharon Kay Chavers Stockstill; his 3 children, Melissa (Billy) Dekemel, Brenda Kay Stockstill, and William Jeffry (Jeff) Stockstill; his 3 grandchildren, Meagan (Garret) Penton, Ray Stockstill, and Brady (Emily) Stockstill; and 3 great grandchildren, Eli Blue Stockstill, Elena Marie Stockstill, and Emerson Alane Penton; one sister, Pat (Lad) McCormick; and brother-in-law, Alan (Lisa) Chavers, and many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family.
In celebration of his life, a brief outdoor visitation will be offered from 10:00 – 11:00 am followed by a graveside service on Friday, January 22nd at 11:00 am at West Union Cemetery, Carriere, MS, under the direction of McDonald Funeral Home. Rev. Bud Putnam will officiate the service. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity or to West Union Baptist Church in memory of Benny.
