Nancy Jean Lane Whicker, was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother. She passed away on January 20th, 2021. Nancy was born on August 30th, 1936, in Forsyth county to Dewey Wilson Lane and Mary Blake Lane. She graduated from Gray High School in 1954 and went to work at Southern Bell at the young age of 16 years old, and she later retired after 38 years of faithful service. After retirement, she attended Salem College and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in music. Nancy loved music and was a choir director at Oak Grove Moravian Church and Olivet Moravian Church for many years. She played the flute with the Old Salem Band, and taught piano to countless children over the years. She ended her career as a substitute teacher for the Winston Salem Forsyth County School System. Nancy is survived by her husband Sherrell Whicker of 58 years; One son, Brett (Vickie)Whicker; two grandchildren, Katelyn (Clark)Dalton and Alex Whicker. A walk-thru visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Salem Funeral Home, Main Street Chapel in Winston Salem, NC. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m Friday, January 22, 2021 at Gardens of Memory, with Rev. Douglas Wrights and Rev. Matthew W. Allen officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to Trellis Supportive Care, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston Salem, NC 27103 or a charity of the donors choice.
