Wayne Charles Stewart Bluffton, South Carolina Obituary

Wayne Charles Stewart

Wayne Stewart passed away suddenly this week at the young age of 59. We know that Wayne’s faith guided him daily and he knew Jesus would call him home when his time on earth was complete. For those of us that loved him it was a calling way to soon.

Wayne lived his life to serve our Lord. He embodied the Christian teachings of love, mercy, charity, forgiveness, righteousness, faithfulness, prayer, honesty and purity of the heart. Wayne was such a sweet and loving person and his passing has left a void and emptiness in the lives of his family and friends.

Wayne spent the majority of his life in the South Jersey, Philly and the Jersey/Atlantic City beach areas before early retirement brought him to Sun City Hilton Head to be near his brother, sister-in-law and his sister-in-law’s family. Although Wayne had a successful accounting career in Philly, that wasn’t Wayne’s calling. Wayne’s true calling was living and spreading the word of God. His love of our Lord provided the strength he needed to overcome challenges in his life while the love of his family gave him the support he needed to explore new experiences and live an active full life.

Wayne was surrounded by a loving family and family above all was his priority. He spoke fondly of his loving aunts, uncles and cousins in the NJ area and the west coast.

Wayne was a devoted brother to his little sister Pam. Pam ranked high on Wayne’s priorities and would work his schedule around a weekly call with her. He never felt anything was more important than speaking to his sister. Despite their distances apart as adults, their strong bond continued throughout his life.

Wayne loved talking to his “millennials” who he mentored from their early youth and was fortunate to live long enough to watch them grow into fine young adults with their own families. He was a guiding presence in their lives and we know with Wayne’s passing that they will miss his guidance and words of wisdom. Wayne also volunteered at Low Country Community Church and enjoyed being a church greeter and supporting the Samaritans Purse Shoebox Ministry for Children.

Wayne was an avid reader and would spend countless hours reading books on his kindle. During warmer weather you’d find Wayne on the beach reading a good book. He also enjoyed the lifelong learning programs offered through the University of SC OLLI program.

Wayne was very proud of his new home and loved showing it off to visiting friends and family. Wayne loved the nature in the lagoon behind his home and he enjoyed watching LowCountry nature either on his daily walks or in his back yard. Watching gators and egrets from his patio was an enjoyable way to spend an afternoon.

Sunday’s were family game and dinner nights. That is when we were able to see a different side of Wayne. He loved winning, especially if he was beating his brother in a battle of Mexican Train, Uno or 5 Crowns. Wayne called his strategic gaming moves his “plan of terror”.

Wayne recently took up pickleball and enjoyed playing with family and friends. He especially loved to be able to win a point or two on his brother-in-law Steve. Wayne enjoyed the competition and especially loved spending time with family. He grew fond of a new girl in his life, Lucy Lu (Steve and Emily’s basset hound). Wayne even gave up his regular Sunday recliner to his new best gal Lucy.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents William and Dolores Stewart. He leaves behind his brother Glenn (Connie) of Bluffton SC, his sister Pam (Janet) of Newark DE, and his extended family Betty Masters , Jefferson City MO (formerly of Bluffton SC), Steve (Emily) Mueller, Lexington NC & Bluffton SC, and Doug (Valerie) Mueller, Jefferson City MO. Wayne also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He will also be missed by friends, neighbors, and his Low Country Community Church family and Bible Study Group.

It was a passing too soon for those of us that will miss his smile, generosity, and kindness.

No memorial service is planned. A private interment will be held at Harleigh Cemetery in Camden NJ early next week.

In lieu of flowers, please consider doing an act of kindness in Wayne’s memory, contribute to Low Country Community Church Giving — LowCountry Community Church | Bluffton, SC (lowcountrycc.org), or a charity of your choice.
