Teresa May Brown

Teresa May Brown, 66, of Gig Harbor, WA, died peacefully on Jan. 4, 2021. Teresa was born on Bainbridge Island in 1954 as the second child of Jean (Lund) and Dale Ferguson. After a divorce, Jean married Howdy Springer in 1962. The Springer family then lived in Iquique, Chile for three years. In 1965, the family returned to Bainbridge Island, and Howdy adopted Teresa and her three brothers.

Teresa graduated from Bainbridge High School. During college, she met Steven Eugene Brown at a church social. Three months later they were engaged. They married on September 18, 1976, and graduated from the University of Washington together in 1977.

They moved to California and started a family in 1979, giving birth to four sons over nine years. For more than two decades, Teresa served tirelessly as a mother and homemaker. Over the years the Brown family lived in California, Texas and then back to Washington. Teresa has led Women’s Ministry and in those ten years, the group went from a less than 12 women to over 150. Through years she put others before herself with patience and a confident relationship with Christ; Teresa offered to others her time, ministry and prayer.

In 2014, Teresa and Steve returned to Washington and they both ended up having cancer.  Teresa and Steve supported each other through their medical trials and limitations. Steve, her loving spouse for more than 44 years, was by Teresa’s bedside as she took her last breath. 

She is survived by her husband, Steve; brothers Jerry, Don, and Bill; sons (and daughters-in-law) Richard (Davida), Matthew (Becky), Jonathan (Samantha) and Anthony (Jessica); eight grandchildren, and a ninth due in June 2021. 

Memorial gifts can be made in Teresa’s name to the Gig Harbor Peninsula FISH Food Bank and The Coffee Oasis, which helps youths experiencing homelessness.
