Thomas Tempel

Thomas A. Tempel, age 79, of Ballwin Missouri, passed away Sunday, January 17th, 2021. Tom was a 1959 graduate of Granite City High School in Illinois. He attended college for 1 year before beginning his service to our country in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1962 to 1966 as a Sergeant. He served in Cherry Point, North Carolina during his time as an active Marine and spoke fondly of his time in the service. He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Kirkwood, Missouri. Tom was united in marriage to Carol there on September 27th,1985. He worked as an electrician for the St. Louis Board of Education for many years before retiring in 2000. Tom and Carol built and operated the Reavis Barracks Car Wash together, where through hard work they created the retirement they dreamed of. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a man who enjoyed a project, and was often found doing projects for his children’s homes as well as his own. Tom also enjoyed organizing annual reunion trips with his Marine buddies and looked forward to planning them each year. Tom and Carol enjoyed many years together as 'snow birds' in Fort Myers, Florida where they made numerous friends, enjoying their winters in the sun. Tom was also an officer there on the snow removal committee for years. In his later years, Tom looked forward to driveway parties with neighbors in both St. Louis and Fort Myers. He will be remembered as a kind hearted, loving man with a quick wit and sense of humor. Tom was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Charlotte Tempel. Tom is survived by his wife Carol of 35 years; son Scott and his wife Lisa; daughter Amy; step-son Stephen Bagwell; step-daughter Connie Mueller and her husband Brad. Grandchildren - Sophie and Seamus Tempel, Luke Brooks and Ellie Trulove, Hunter and Greyson Wyllie, Ethan and Luke Bagwell, Alex and Allison O’Brien. Sister Julie Oyen-Keller, twin brother Carl Tempel and his wife Debbie, brother Phillip Tempel and his wife Carol. Funeral services for Tom will be held on January 30th, 2021 at 2:00pm with Reverand David Meggers officiating. Prior to the service there will be a visitation at 1:00pm. Both will be held at Bopp Chapel Funeral Home: 10610 Manchester Road, Kirkwood, MO. If desired, memorials can be made in Tom's name to the National Parkinson's Foundation.
