KOLAR - Joseph John, 91; Gahanna, OH, formerly of Johnstown, PA passed away Tuesday, January 19th 2021 at the residence of his daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Steve. Born November 24th, 1929 in Johnstown, PA, son of Louis and Barbara (Boldin) Kolar. Preceded in death by parents, Louis and Barbara; son, Robert Joseph; wife, Amelia Frances; and brothers, Frank and John (“Chuch”), and sisters, Ann Chontas, Josephine Calik, and Catherine (“Tachie”) Farkas.  Survived by sister, Mildred Walters of Lancaster, PA; brother-in-law, Robert Calik of Monroeville, PA; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Andrew and Dorothy Kaman of Norton, OH; daughters and son-in-laws, Lisa and Steve Kraus of Gahanna, OH; and Diane and Chuck Baum of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren, Evan and Margaret Kraus of Gahanna, OH; Dylan and Nathaniel Baum of Knoxville, TN; step-grandson, Brandon Baum of Mason, OH; along with many nieces and nephews in the family.   Joseph was a member of the Croatian Fraternal Union, Johnstown, PA; the VFW, and the American Legion of Columbus, OH; was a Fourth Degree Knight of The Knights of Columbus, Johnstown, PA; a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles, Columbus, OH. Joseph was also a member of the 15th Infantry Regiment Association and the Korean Service Veterans Association.  Joseph was a Purple Heart recipient as a Staff Sergeant in the Korean War from 1951-1953 where he proudly served his country. He was a foreman (among many other positions) at Bethlehem Steel Corporation where he worked for many years.  Joseph loved nature. He was an avid fisherman and absolutely loved to get outdoors whenever he had the chance, and also enjoyed bird-watching, especially the eagles. He was a member of Resurrection Parish, Johnstown, PA, and the former St. Rochus Parish, where he and his wife spent many years attending and raising their children. Joseph was very active in many church activities, including yearly picnics where he served, and he was very proud of the fact that he never missed a Christmas Eve mass. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and brother, and will be sorely missed. Friends received Saturday January 23rd, 2021 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. at the Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home Inc. Broad Street. Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. at Resurrection Parish, Rev. George M. Gulash. Committal will follow at SS Peter and Paul Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Hospice of Central Ohio-Main Office, 2269 Cherry Valley Road, Newark, OH 43055 in memory of Joseph Kolar.
