Nicholas Michael Gelles

On this day, January 20, 2021, Nicholas M. Gelles went to be with the Lord after a long and hard fought battle with cancer. He was born February 12, 1942. He is preceded in death by his parents, Michael Gelles and Mary Martyak. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lillian M. (Rowe) Gelles; his daughter, Marion and husband Wayne Brown and their children, Tosya and Brian Nadrean, Christopher and Crystal Brown, and great-grandchildren, Brionna, Wyatt, Emmett, and Layla; his son, Michael and wife Vicki Gelles and their children, Bryanna and Daniel Thomas, Katelyn and Mark Mowen, and great-grandchildren, Jacob, Luke, Maddison, Maci, and Harper; his brother, Joseph and wife Marjorie Gelles; nephew, Joey and wife Jackie Gelles; niece, Michelle and husband Marcelo Giuliante; great-nieces, Mia, Kaylee, and Reagan; nephew, Eddie Emerick; great-nephew, Matthew and wife Stephanie Emerick; great-great nieces and nephews, Tyler, Sarah, Daniel, and Kailee; as well as many more family, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Nick was a member of Our Lady of the Mountains Parish, Piney Mountain Sportsmen Club, Ellerslie Sportsmen Club, and the Kennells Mill Sportsmen Club. He was an avid outdoorsman and dedicated family man. His enjoyment was socializing with anyone he met, friends or strangers. He was known by many as the candy, donut, or bread man for his kindness of always handing out with a smile on his face. He is also the proud record holder at Kennells Mill for eating 24 ears of corn! One of Nick’s proud accomplishments was donating regularly to St. Jude’s Hospital in the name of his deceased friends. On behalf of Nick, we ask for no flowers. Instead, please make a donation in Nick’s name to St. Jude’s Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105. Family and friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Saturday, January 23, 2021, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home immediately following visitation at 1 p.m. Interment will be in Comps Cemetery, Hyndman, PA. Pallbearers will be Michael Gelles, Joey Gelles, Eddie Emerick, Matthew Emerick, Mark Summer, and Brian Mellott. Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Brown, Christopher Brown, Mark Mowen, Danny Thomas, Brian Nadreau, Bernard Shroyer, Mike Romesburg, Doug Sheirer, and Steve Perts.
