Susi Delldonna Obituary

Susi Schaechter Delldonna, of Middletown, died peacefully at home on January 19, 2021 with her family by her side. She is survived by her loving and caring son Michael T. Kirner and his wife Dr. Marianne Eike Kirner of Middletown; her nieces Caryn Soll of Scottsdale, AZ, Renee Soll Paley of Portland, Dr. Judith Schaechter of Arlington, MA, and Lauren Schaechter Lieberman of Simsbury; and her nephew Mark J. Soll of Meriden. She is also survived by many great-nephews and nieces and many friends, all of whom she loved dearly. Susi was predeceased by her husband Carmen R. Delldonna; her parents, Arnold and Ruth Schaechter; her brother Harry B. Schaechter; and her sister Bernice Schaechter Soll.

Susi was born in Langensalza, Germany on June 22, 1931. She came to the United States in December 1933 with her parents and brother. She grew up in Brooklyn, New York and graduated from Erasmus Hall High School in 1949. She raised Michael in Brooklyn until they moved to Middletown where she met her beloved Carm when they were both working for Raymond Engineering. Susi then worked at Middlesex Memorial Hospital until her retirement when she immediately became a volunteer. One of her proudest accomplishments, other than Michael, was volunteering at Middlesex Memorial Hospital for over 21 years. Susi was also very proud to be a U.S. Citizen. Susi's family and friends will always remember how she loved New York City, especially Brooklyn; playing the slots at the casinos; and old black and white movies.

Susi and her family wish to send special thanks to Dr. Robert Levy; caring healthcare aide Shateyah Richardson; the administration of Heritage Commons; and her many friends at Heritage Commons among both the residents and staff. The family will schedule a joyous celebration of Susi's life once it is safe for everyone who loved her to hug, laugh, sing, and dance together as we share stories about Susi. There will be a private graveside service at the Pine Grove Cemetery on South Main Street, Middletown. Per Susi's wishes, memorial donations may be made to the Make a Wish Foundation of CT, 56 Commerce Drive, Trumbull, CT 06611. Arrangements are being handled by the Doolittle Funeral Service of Middletown. Please share online condolences, memories or photo tributes at doolittlefuneralservice.com.
