Michael E. Martin Yorktown Heights, New York Obituary

Michael E. Martin

Michael Edward Martin passed away peacefully from complications due to Alzheimer’s with his devoted wife Kathleen by his side on Wednesday January 20th at the age of 74. Mike was born in 1947 and raised in Peekskill, New York. Just like how he dealt with all experiences in life, Mike managed Alzheimer’s with strength and grace and wanted to spend as much time with his loved ones as possible before the disease took its toll. At his final moment, he was surrounded by his wife Kathleen, who he adored more than anything in this world. Mike graduated from Lakeland High School and went on to become a steamfitter and mechanical contractor. He gave back to his trade by teaching apprentices at the Local 21 for many years. He was a diehard NY Yankee and hapless Jets fan. His favorite sports moment was watching Jack Nicklaus win the 1986 Masters with his son Christopher. He loved playing golf and spending time with his family and seven grandchildren. He was and amazing and loving husband to his wife Kathleen, as well as the best father to his son Christopher and daughters Kimberly (Sullivan) and Holly (Shapiro). His children called their dad a superhero, even as adults. He was always there for them through their ups and downs and taught them to enjoy every moment life has to offer. He awoke for work every day at 3:45am, 7 days a week. His work ethic and devotion to his family was unparalleled. He was a great hugger and ended every conversation with I love you! Two of his favorite sayings were “what goes around, comes around” and “life is not a dress rehearsal” and he lived his life to that credo. Mike leaves behind seven grandchildren: Emma, Madeline, Michael, Logan, Finn, Brody and Sofia. The family insists that people make donations in support of Alzheimer’s, in lieu of sending flowers. Please click on the link below for more information on Mr. Martin's daughter Kim's fundraising page for the Alzheimer's Association. Due to Covid, a memorial service will take place in the spring/summer when times are appropriate.
