Carl E. "Brownie" Bartlett

Carl E.“Brownie” Bartlett, 73, of Simpson, WV and formerly Joetown, WV, departed this life on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at home after a sudden illness and cancer diagnosis to join his loving wife. Mr. Bartlett was born on January 15, 1948 at Berry Hill in Taylor County, a son of the late Wayne W. Bartlett Sr. and Evelyn Shugars Bartlett. Carl was preceded in death by his loving wife of 42 years, Mary E. (Merritt) Moyer-Bartlett on June 3, 2013. He was also preceded in death by several step great-grandchildren and one step-son Harry Moyer. He is survived by two sons: Carl Bartlett Jr. and spouse Curtis Hutchinson Bartlett of Grafton, and Michael W. Bartlett and wife Kimberly Martin of Fourstates; one special grandson, Chaise Bartlett whom resided with him and Papaw loved him and he loved Papaw very much. Papaw and Nanny helped raise Chaise and drove him to and from school the last several years, and they enjoyed the time together. Carl called him his little buddy and from day one he was Pap’s prize possession. Also surviving are two step-daughters: Lottie Moyer and Sandra Audia (Frank) of Grafton and their families; three step-sons: James Moyer and Yolanda of Rosemont and their children (Jennifer and JD), Roy Moyer and his family (Tyler, Madison, CJ); and Homer Moyer and wife Tammy of Meadland and their family (Haely, Megan, and Brooke); several step-grandchildren: Dkara, Dquon, and Monty; three sisters: Joann Campbell, Mary Gawthrop (Rick) of Fairmont and Diane Ketterman of Grafton; four brothers: Leonard (Julie), Wayne Jr., Michael Allen Bartlett all of Flemington, Roger Bartlett of VA; many other step-grandchildren including two that used to stay with him and nanny, Brian and Sherry; and several step great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, cousins, and trucker friends. Carl was a certified professional trucker driver for over 42 years, retiring from Nuzum Trucking in Shinnston. He also worked at various other companies including Berry, Atha, Benson and Bridgeport Trucking Co. He loved working on cars, wrestling, being outdoors, and was known to be a great mechanic always tinkering with cars and trucks. He attended the former Flemington Church of God. He got the nickname “Brownie” from his trucking buddies and was also certified in WV surface mining and OSHA. He also adored his dog, “Casper.” The family would like to thank Grafton City Hospital workers and Dr. Bender, as well as WV Caring Hospice for all of their loving care. The family will receive friends at the Bradley J. Mayle Funeral Home in Flemington, WV on Thursday, January 21, 2021 from 4 until 7pm. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday, January 22, 2021 at 10am with Pastor David Harris presiding. Interment will follow at the Flemington IOOF Cemetery.
