Millie Madene Harris

Mrs. Millie Harris, age 77, of Honaker, Virginia, passed away Tuesday (January 19,2021) in a Richlands, Virginia hospital. Born October 10, 1943 in Pilgrim’s Knob, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late William Hyter and Mary Lou “Tiny” Steele Presley. She had spent most of her life in the area and was a graduate of Council High School. She was a longtime member of Swords Creek Block Church, where she loved to serve the Lord in song and cooking for others at church functions. She was currently employed as a seamstress at Lebanon Apparel and had formerly worked at Honaker Manufacturing and for Peoples, Incorporated. A loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, she enjoyed gardening, canning, and cooking. Never one to be idle, she enjoyed running errands for others and making sure their needs were met. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Elden Presley, Ernest Presley, and Elmer Presley, one sister, Genelle Hess, two sisters-in-law, Shirley Presley and Frances Presley, and three brothers-in-law, Donald Presley, Roy Hess, and Johnny J. Hall Compton. Survivors include her husband of over fifty years, David Harris of the home; two sons, David Harris, Jr. and wife, Janet of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and Jaride Barton of Honaker; one daughter, Renee Hess of Honaker; three grandchildren, Ethan Harris, Levi Harris, and Kisha Hess; three sisters, Ruth Compton of Vansant, Gaylene Presley of Hurricane Creek, and Lola Mae Presley of Hansonville; two brothers, Delmer Presley and wife, Judy of Honaker, and Hyter Presley, Jr. and wife, Violet of Lebanon; sister-in-law, Hazel Presley of Bristol; brother-in-law, Robert Harris of Honaker; special friends, Pam Arwood, Sue Ball, Loretta Perkins, Glenda Cook, and many others; several nieces and nephews also survive. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Clinch Valley Medical Center ICU for the love and care they provided. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Friday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Steve Perkins and Lynn Campbell officiating. Interment will follow in the Frank Smith Cemetery on Big A Mountain, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Jaride Barton, Ethan Harris, Levi Harris, Lynn Campbell, James Davis, Cecil Miller, Carlton Hubble, Lewis Miller, Don Wampler, and Cheyenne Harris. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Swords Creek Block Church. Due to COVID restrictions mandated by the governor, a mask is required. For those unable or uncomfortable attending, the funeral service will be livestreamed on our Facebook page as well as our webpage. The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6:00 PM Thursday, where an evening service will be conducted at 7:00 PM with Rev. Darrell Milgrim officiating.
