Ronald Gibson Obituary

Ronald Bruce Gibson, was the fifth child born to Eddie James Gibson, Sr. and Eddie Mae Plair Gibson, in Evanston, Illinois. His parents and siblings, Eddie James, Jr., Virtine Nimmers, Jetter Paul, Sr. and son, Jeremiah, preceded him in death. Ronald died three months after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He fought a valiant fight until the end. He wanted everyone to know that he was prepared to go Home. Ronald, who we all called Bruce, attended Evanston Public Schools where he developed life-long friendships. He had a winning smile and a kind, compassionate heart. He worked in the sales industry and was a successful insurance salesman for many years. After a season of emotional challenges, Bruce made the decision to surrender His life to God. He entered Teen Challenge, a Faith-based Non-Profit recovery program, that instills Biblical teachings that focus on the power of the Holy Spirit and God’s Word to encourage healing and a new life in Christ. He completed the program in 14 months in Muskegan, MI and was asked to become the Project Manager Administrator in the Flint, MI program. Answering the call to share God’s Word, he enrolled in Trinity Theology Seminary and attended for two years. He would later attend Baker Community College earning an Associate’s Degree. He knew that his purpose in life was to help others. Soon after returning to Evanston, he became our Mother’s primary caretaker. He took care of her in spite of his own physical challenges until she died. Bruce became a member of Fisher Memorial Church under the leadership of Dr. Paul David Smith in 2019. He was so excited to be a part of the family of God. He loved discussing the Word of God and serving and inspiring others offering words of wisdom based on his life’s experiences. Bruce was authentic, genuine, and open about his love for God. He’d say, “God’s mercy is bigger than any mistake that you’ve made.” Bruce was deeply devoted to his family and will be greatly missed by his brother, Michael (Lynda); his sister, Shirlene (Big Marv) Baker; his granddaughter and two great-granddaughters, Jerequita S. Yeates, Aniyah, and Jada, of Starkville, MS; special sister-in-law Carolyn (the late Bo) Gibson; his nieces and nephews whom he thought of as his children; Marvin, Jr. (Natasha) Baker, Aaron (Amanda) Mackey, Eddie Gibson, III, Terrance Wimberly, Michael (De Anna) Gibson, Ladell (Robert) Stephenson, Latrice (Marcus) Lee, Jetter Gibson, Jr., Dr. Trisha Baker, Tamla Gibson, Tanya Gibson, and Marissa Gibson. His great nieces and nephews, his loving Aunts and Uncles, Cousins and friends will cherish his memory for a lifetime.
