James M. Holm

James M. "Jim" Holm, age 89, of Hastings, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on January 18, 2021. Jim was born December 3, 1931 in Detroit Lakes. He was raised by Herman and Grace Holm on the family farm in Greenbush, MN. Jim graduated from Crookston High School and joined the Army working in Communications while in stationed in Korea. After his service in the Army, he attended Dunwoody Institute to study to become an Electrician. He married the love of his life, Janet Jorgenson on October 6, 1956 in Ross, MN. Jim was an Electrician at 3M Chemolite in Cottage Grove for over 26 years. After his retirement, he loved wood working, especially building his bird houses and lawn ornaments. Jim loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and being with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. The most important thing to him was his family. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; mother and father in-law, Johnie and Minie Jorgenson. He is survived by his wife, Janet; children, Cindy (Ken) Nestrud; Julie (Dan) Riveness; and Mark (Jessie) Holm; grandchildren, Aaron Nestrud (Sara), Eric Nestrud (Amanda), Ryan (Danielle) Nestrud, Luke (Jessica) Riveness, Nikki (Zach) Peterson, Gabbie Riveness (Jerid), Nick Holm (Kaitlyn), Grace Holm, and Nate Holm; great grandchildren, Makayla Bollman and Mikko, Leo, Hazel, and Phillip Nestrud; Wiley and Sylas Peterson; Charlotte and Lydia Riveness; half siblings, Leroy Knutson, Ronald Nelson, Audrey Hemmingson, Helen Nelson, and John Nelson; sister in law, Carol Hostvedt; brother in law, James Jorgenson; and many special nieces and nephews. Due to COVID-19 a private family service will be held. Interment will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Hastings.
