Theodore Hodges Campbell Obituary

Theodore H. Campbell Jr., 95, of Woodstock, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, January 12, 2020 surrounded by love and family. He was born July 21, 1925 in Jacksonville, Florida to the late Theodore Hodges and Martha Caroline Aull Campbell. Following the death of his mother, he was raised by his aunt, Louise Aull, in Pendleton, South Carolina. Ted was also preceded in death by his sister, Carolyn Virginia Campbell Withers.

Ted enlisted in the Army Air Corps after finishing high school in Pendleton and was called to active duty while attending Clemson University. He served in Italy during World War II with the 15th Air Force as a ball turret gunner and participated with his crew in 20 missions.

After the war he finished his education at Presbyterian College in Clinton, South Carolina. Following graduation, he returned to the Jacksonville area and worked for a local insurance adjuster. He later moved to the Atlanta area where he met his wife Nancy Gailey and raised his family. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Theodore H. Campbell III of Woodstock, his wife Kimberly, and their children Theodore IV, Caroline, and Chloe. He is also survived by a daughter, Patricia Lowry, her husband Chris, and their children Preston, Ben, and Brett.

Shortly after retiring from Citizens and Southern Commercial Corporation in 1988, Ted and Nancy began volunteering with Cobb Senior Services where they served as drivers for Meals on Wheels in Marietta, Georgia and continued to deliver meals for the next 20 years. Ted and Nancy were named volunteers of the year in 2000.

Ted was an active member of John Knox Presbyterian Church in Marietta where he served as receiving treasurer, deacon, and trustee. He was also a member of the Marietta Golden K Kiwanis Club and spent many hours ringing the Salvation Army bell during the holidays and assisting with other volunteers' opportunities.

A special thank you to Dr. Allen Mills and staff, Northside Hospital Cherokee, and Amedisys home health/hospice for their wonderful care.

A graveside service will be held on 2:00 pm, Monday, January 25, 2021 with interment immediately following at the Georgia National Cemetery in Cherokee County. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Thornwell Home for Children at www.thornwell.org, St. Jude Children's Hospital at www.stjude.org, or a church or charity of your choosing.
