Nick Garner Obituary

Nick Garner, 76, of Sandy, Utah passed away January 17, 2021 peacefully at his home. Nick was born on December 4, 1944 in Montpelier, Idaho to Geeg and Duane Garner. The family moved to Salt Lake City where he attended Granite High School and excelled at all sports. He also met the love of his life Elaine in high school. They got married on September 7, 1963. They welcomed their daughter to the world on January 1, 1966. Nick then joined the South Salt Lake Police Department. Two years later he was drafted in the Vietnam War where he served as a CID, MP and Honor Guard. He received a lot of commendations, one which was the Purple Heart. Nick loved bowling, Wendover and especially the Garner Ranch in Garden City, Utah. Nick always made sure you were welcome and treated you as if you were family. One of Nick’s favorite things to do in the summer was taking a trip on the wave runner around the lake with Elaine. He is survived by the love of his life, Elaine Garner, siblings Van (Cindy) Garner, DeAnn (Mark) Wittke, daughter Jennifer (Cory) Elkington, grandchildren Stephanie (James) Muirhedd and Ryan (Heidi) Elkington, and 4 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at 2:00 pm at the Garden City Cemetery, Garden City, Utah. Please have flowers delivered to the mortuary by 10:00 am on Saturday.
