Everlena Brunson Obituary

Reflections of Life Now there is a crown waiting for me. It is given to those who are right with God. The Lord, who judges fairly, will give it to me on the day he returns. He will not give it only to me. He will also give it to all those who are longing for him to return 2 Timothy 4:8 Mrs. Everlena Verner Brunson was born August 8, 1924 in Georgetown County in Hemingway, South Carolina. She was the second of ten children born to the late Jeff Edward and Seef Walker Verner. Everlena was called to eternal rest on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at Springdale HealthCare in Camden, South Carolina. Everlena was educated in the Georgetown County School System. As time progressed, she met the love of her life, the late Solomon Brunson, and after a long courtship they entered Holy Matrimony on October 8, 1948. They were married for forty-seven years. Everlena resided in Hemingway, South Carolina with her husband, and two children were born to this union: Maude Geneva Brunson Cooper (Remond), and the late Elizabeth Queenetha Brunson Thomas, (Ronnie). Everlena was a life-long member of Walkers Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and was a faithful member until her health failed. At an early age, she accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior. Everlena found great joy from singing in the senior choir and being a supportive and faithful member of the church with kind words or deeds. In her early years, Everlena enjoyed cooking meals to take to the unions and special events at Walker’s Chapel. In 2014, Walker’s Chapel Missionary honored Everlena by naming her their “Outstanding Mother of the Church.” This was an honor that she cherished. In addition to her church involvement, Everlena was a member of the Grand Gavel Chapter #378 Eastern Star. Everlena enjoyed gardening and growing vegetables to share with her family and friends, taking care of her great grandchildren, and helping others as her means would allow. Everlena was known for her good home cooking. Everlena’s career involved providing loving service to families as a domestic worker, gardening, and farming, and Everlena retired from Wellman Industries in Johnsonville, South Carolina after 16 years of employment. There Everlena made some lifelong friends. Everlena had a deep devotion and love for her family. She was a: kind, caring, warm-hearted, mild-mannered, yet strong, compassionate, and sweet-spirited mother who loved and cared immensely about all her children and grandchildren. Everlena was preceded in death by her mother and father, Jeff Edward and Seef Walker Verner, her husband, Solomon Brunson, one daughter, Elizabeth Queenetha Brunson Thomas, and eight siblings: Levice Gray, Herbert Verner, Doretha Bell, Mack Roy Verner, Mae Ellen Walker, Alifair Sumpter, Marion Verner, Lee Floyd Verner, and one brother-in-Law, Lynn Mullins. Somehow, amid all her busy life, she found time to raise her children and grandchildren. Everlena leaves to cherish fond memories: one daughter, Maude Geneva Brunson Cooper (Remond) of Camden, SC; a son-in-law, Ronnie Thomas of Columbia, SC; six grandchildren: three grandchildren that she reared (Children of Late daughter Elizabeth): Lavonna Queenetha Brigman (Jamie) of Dover, AR, Tammy Thomas Green (Zavonn) of Georgetown, SC, and Ronnetha Thomas of Hemingway, SC; and, the children of Maude Geneva; Dr. Vidette Cooper of Holly Springs, NC, Courtney Cooper Williams (David) of Columbia, SC and Kerri Cooper (fiancé James) of Westchester, IL; eleven great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren; two sisters and one brother: Ruthenia Mullins (Lynn, deceased), Lucille Verner, Leonard Verner of Bridgeport, CT; one brother-in-law, Clarence Sumpter of Norwalk, CT two sisters-in-law, Vernetha Heath (Marvin) of Jamaica, NY; Juanita Brunson Frazier of New York, NY and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends that Everlena took on a motherly role with. Everlena will also be remembered by the staff, residents, and friends of Springdale HealthCare—especially her dear friend, Mrs. Nell Taylor and an “adopted” granddaughter, Tonia Gaskins.
